Bowl Game Opponant UPDATE

I am still holding out hope that we play USC, but their win last night vs Stanford threw a wrench in the standings. This much is true; BYU will be playing a better team now.

The Pac-12 might not get a team in the NC game now. Stanford is out and Oregon is hoping for a some losses to teams ahead of them.(not likely) As of now it looks like Oregon will get the Rose bowl bid. Lots to work out still:

Pac-#1 ROSE BOWL- Oregon and ASU at 6-1 records

Pac#2 ALAMO BOWL - Stanford at 6-2

Pac#3 HOLIDAY BOWL- UCLA and USC at 5-2

Pac#4 - SUN BOWL- Oregon St at 4-3

Pac#5 -VEGAS BOWL- WSU,UA, UW at 3-4

Pac#6 - Fight Hunger Bowl

Next weeks games help sort things out:

Oregon vs Arizona... Oregon should go to 7-1 and Arizona goes to 3-5

Stanford Vs Cal. Stanford goes to 7-2

Oregon St vs Washington. This is a ? A OSU win solidifies the top half.

Wash St Vs Utah. A WSU win puts them at 4-5. I'd hope for a Utah win.(I don't want WSU in the race)

Arizona St VS UCLA. Big game for the 2-4 spots

USC vs Colorado. USC goes to 6-2. Bye Bye USC to the Fight hunger bowl.

Glad we don't get USC. They have turned around.

Not sure I would want OSUs Sr, draft-bound Mannion vs our DBs. Eek.



And how about that second year of GFGH approach in Arizona? Or maybe AZ has regressed bc Anae isn't there ;-).



Either way, I hope BYU doesn't similarly regress.



UW sounds good. Utah sounded good till we lost ALOT of guys to injuries.

I think any of those teams will make for a good bowl game, ans will give the bowl game a lot of credibility for ESPN to hype the game up. I'd like to see USC or Washington with Arizona being the next best choice.

Washington State will be bowl eligible if they beat Utah at home. If Utah wins that road game, they will be bowl eligible if they beat Colorado in RES. Colorado theoretically could make it by winning out but that is very unlikely. Only CAL is already dead.



Although highly unlikely, PAC could end up with 10 Bowl Eligible teams. Nine is very possible.

If I were the AD for Utah there is no way I want any part of BYU, no upside. Utah already beat us, he has to see we would be favored and he likely prefers to lock in a 4 year win streak prior to a long lay off.



If I were Chris Hill I would do everything in my power to NOT play BYU. From a BYU perspective, I want to play Utah. I think we would beat them now that TH can complete a pass.



I am guessing a Utah rematch is only a dream.....but that is what I want.

It'll be UW if they are available (I'm assuming USC and UCLA get picked before UW). UW travels well so if they win out they might get a better bowl (Sun Bowl).



Also, I think if UCLA, USC and ASU end in a 3-way tie for 1st in the South and if USC plays Oregon, SC wins and plays in the Rose bowl and Oregon in the Fiesta. USC could also get the Fiesta if they win out and don't play in the championship game. Either way if two PAC teams get in the BCS, the KFH bowl gets OSU instead of UW.



My prediction is ASU beats UCLA and this happens:

Without upsets it looks like Oregon State is #6. The Vegas bowl selection at 5 could determine who we get. Does Vegas take a worse conf. record Washington over Oregon St?

Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and ASU will all be off the table. UW is a bigger brand than OSU or Arizona. The only way we won't play a 7 win Washington team is if the Pac-12 gets 2 teams into a BCS game which is still possible.

Stanford I believe is the only team in the conf. to only have 1 conf. game left. Without a chance to play in the Pac-12 title game, their conference record is pretty much set. They get a gimmie vs Cal and finish with Notre Dame. Assuming they win out, is 10-2 with losses to two(then) unranked teams enough?

They will be battling Wisconsin,Fresno and Central Florida for that at large.

likely they will end up with the Alamo bowl. IMO the best Stanford does is the Alamo bowl. ASU would need to win out OR Oregon would have to lose(before the pac title game) for anything to change.

I think even if OSU beats UW we still get UW. UW will likely beat WSU. OSU will likely lose to Oregon. In that scenario both schools are 7-5. UW is a much bigger brand than OSU. This is why I think UW is a virtual lock.

FWIW ... right now ESPN is predicting BYU - UW bowl game.

Like the selfish child who hoards all his birthday presents and won't share with his friends, I selfishly state, "It doesn't matter what we get. What matters is that Utah doesn't get. No bowl for the Utes is bowl enough for me!"



I gotta do something about this Ute hatred I carry around. They say the first step toward repentance is to feel remorse. I'm having a hard time with that remorse thing. Just sin't there.

We disagree, I want Utah in a bowl game vs BYU.......I want the Utes again and I want to beat them. Other than that I agree, if they are not playing BYU I want them home for the holidays.
