How can a team play so many great games and then show up to a couple high school games and get splattered?
I honestly think these guys are underwhelmed and it's negatively affecting them. They never got that signature win--were only a couple points away 3 times--and are now reeling because of it.
UofU on the other hand only played high school teams in pre-season and got all the confidence in the world. I think I know which approach would've served this team better this year.
Last sentence. True. Call it the Jack Gardener formula or The Stan Watts approach. BYU and Utah built some of their great teams this way.
This year BYU had some very good coaches and players spotlight their every weakness and road map how to exploit each one. Lesser teams can now just follow the roadmap.
BYU shoots poorly from 3 and from FT. Teams dare them to go there.
Players have lost confidence in themselves and / or each other - result is selfish play
When they create opportunities - missed FT'S and turnovers and failure to rebound kill the runs.
There were some positives down the stretch to build in. They will be back in the friendly, but mostly empty, confines. They have a week to prepare. They get a beatable opponent Saturday. Maybe they get back in synch.
BYU has been exposed. There will not be 25 wins. I was wrong. There will not be any dancing unless a miracle happens the rest of the way.
