BYU vs USD game thread (positive comments only)

It has almost looked like BYU has had an (half court) offense tonight. First time in a while I've seen open corner threes which should be a staple for this team. HAlford Carlino and Winder can all knock down that shot. Watch out WCC, this is a new BYU team!!!

Defense stepped up big. Or at least Halford did. Shut Jonny Dee down.



Overall very impressed with the improvements since Pepperdine. Wish it would have happened before pepperdien though.

Amen. Rose kept pressing the run and gun and MC too long.

Funny how man to man as your base "D" can have an effect on the results of the game. I think I heard mentioned that SD came in as the top 3 pt team in the WCC. Funny how having a hand in your face consistently can lead to such a poor night of shooting 3's. And how about all the non-second chance points that SD got? Out rebounded by a ton- which has been a major part of Rose's defensive philospy. If they only get one shot per trip, chances are they are going to come away empty.



We still had a few forced shots but it happens because someone is trying so this doesn't bother me as much as what was still going on in the first 10 min of the game. Haws and MC kept passing on open shots. Thank goodness for Halford not suffering from the same sickness and then being able to cure the team of it. To me that has been the plague on O the last few games. Nobody wanting to shoot the ball. Hopefully that is put to rest now.



Good win and I think the next two should be very similar (probably not 30 pt wins but I expect double digit - with the caveat that the team doesn't revert back to the way it played on the road. And provided that Rose stick to a man defense as the base D.

SD did not come in as a WCC leading hot 3-pt shooting team although they have 2 guys who shoot it well. Based on the data I saw, they were slightly better than BYU at the 3 and FT. BYU FG % was better. I saw season numbers. Maybe 2 games into WCC play they might have been. They shot it well in the losses to LMU and Pepperdine on the road..
