Good article on Anson........patience does pay off

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865597229/Utah-Sports-Ruckus-Anson-Winders-patience-has-paid-off-for-BYU-is-Jimmer-Fredette-a-cursed-Miley.html?pg=1&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cougarboard.com%2Fboard%2Fmessage.html%3Fid%3D12055525" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Article indicates Anson is No. 1/16 in WCC/NCAA in offensive efficiency. That's pretty good for a guy supposed to be a defensive specialist. I've always felt that Anson hasn't gotten a fair shake to prove what he can do as his leash has always been very short. Hope Rose unleashes him a little more now

People forget as a freshman Anson played point before Carlino came and he did a pretty good job of it too.

I think he's a very underrated player and I hope he gets more minutes. If it were up to me, I'd go with the following lineup:

1 - MC

2 - AW

3 - TH

4 - KC

5 - NA

Wait.......ignoring the technicality of who plays the first 5 minutes of the game and that nobody plays 40 minutes and that 30 minutes is more typical with many starters even dropping to mid 20s -

That is pretty much who we have been going with.

I have to disagree about Winder. He has had many chances. You pointed out yourself, that MC, the same age took away the PG slot from him. He had chances at the 2 - last year and earlier this year. He was not ready. Look at the results. Players actually develop when playing off the bench and working hard to get more minutes. He looks ready now. We will see how it holds up on the road.

Take FT shooting. Clearly the team focused on that a month ago. We saw individual progress but then regress. In Winder's case the focus seems to have created a break through. You can see the difference. He is more relaxed and confident. Just steps up and takes a simple stroke and tosses it in. 12-12. He shot 65% or so prior to that.

I only see two differences in Winder's game.

1. Confidence- probably from a lot of practice

2. Better strength and touch after contact. In the years previous Winder didn't go up as strong and he would miss the little in-between shots. This year he has be making them and drawing fouls.

Let's not be too quick to forget that Winder had a lingering ankle injury that he was dealing with for most of 2012-2013.

He looks like a completely different player this year.

Was about to say the same thing. Hard to get a good "chance" when you miss nearly half the season due to injury and are then playing catch up.

Also, if I recall correctly Winder played shooting guard in high school not point guard so stepping in and playing an unfamiliar position as a freshman on a D1 school ain't so bad. MC was just better at it.

Hope Winder keeps it up.

I am not bagging on Winder. He got minutes early this season, too. Did not grab the brass ring. See his box scores. Something changed. More relaxed. Better FT stroke. Better shooting over-all. It is his time now. Two starts in a row with big minutes. Given how Johnny Depp was shut down in Provo, it will be interesting to see if Rose goes with Winder who is clearly playing better right now, or Halford who was huge vs SD before. Probably both will play to keep fresh legs.

My phone changes Dee to Depp. I will just leave it that way until we take the last little bit of swagger out of him Saturday.

I'm ok with Halford starts and guards Johnny Poppyseed as he matches up well in this situation and he helped shut him down in Provo. That is unless SD starts running "moving" screens, like Portland appeared to be doing for Sharp all night, and a guy like Winder would be needed to try to power through.

I think you will see both Winder and Halford - probably 2/3 Winder because he is shooting so well right now.

Won't matter. Whoever can shut Down JD plays more. Shut down JD and BYU wins game.
