The students stormed the court because the WAC regular season championship is the biggest thing that's ever happened in UVU sports.

Throwing punches must be the new way to celebrate.

You hadn't heard? :D But yeah, the majority of students just wanted to celebrate, because there's so little to celebrate at UVU (I know from experience).

The NCAA and schools need to put a stop to fans rushing the field/court.

It's just asking for situations like this (and worse) to happen.

Again, two seperate incidents. Losing player throws ball at winning player. Winning team takes exception and losing player wants to brawl.

Fans simultaneously storming court bc of biggest sporting event in UVU history--totally understandable, acceptable and goes a long way to help build a culture at a new university.

If the ball throwing incident happens at a different game only the players would be involved and universities and WAC can take action.

UVU should not get caught up in this over-reactive society that we live in. It's anomalous and sold not end the rare floor storming that should be allowed to occur in stead of the police state that would be required to keep ever than off the court.

Watching BYU security keep fans off the BYU field when it has been stormed is like watching a puny man trying to hold back the Missouri. It's a futile and often times exacerbating variable.

But on that note, BYU Marriott center has done an effective job cordoning off the court.

But, Cougs, couldn't UVU just get the ROTC to help and put any rushing students in head locks?

They should invest in the same anti-court/field charging equipment that BYU uses to great effect:

Nothing gets past paracord.

Why aren't t he students assaulting people in a brawl like this prosecuted?

I understand that the players in a game are under different rules. But Fans deserve no special protection.

I also think Utah valley university deserves some name here too. This was the biggest game in school history. The odds of a court rushing were high. The university has a responsibility to safeguard the players and coaches from the storming fans.

They failed to plan for a way to escort new Mexico State players safely of the court. If you're going to allow court rushing, then you need a plan for opponents leaving the court safely.

Gotta protect the team from those 17 fans.

BB, you're right. It's kind of like a riot in Canada:

Actually, yes. Yes you do have to protect teams from even 17 fans. UVU officials failed to accordingly plan for the rushing of the court and a perfect storm of poor player sportsmanship, over-exuberant fans, no control and players isolated from coaches and teammates conspired to make a latent situation go kinetic.

Growing pains. Who would have thunk this would ever happen. UVU may actually grow up even further. It would be cool to see a BYU v UVU game as one of our soft games. UVUs success is great for ALOT of High school kids who got passed over by BYU.

UVU v BYU should happen every year!

And if they're going to be winning the WAC, it's not a bad game to have each year and no travel involved. BYU could essentially get a road game while still having a home court advantage.

Talk about a trap game. UVU consistently spanked BYU in baseball while I was attending BYU. Their basketball team is looking dangerous.

Not many BYU fans will end up with tickets at the UCCU center, (and why the name change from David O McKay Center?)

AND, according to you spiff, fans don't really matter at games, so why should BYU fans even attemp to make the UCCU center a "home" environment for BYU?
