Wolfie,

Your lack of understanding, as evidenced by pretty much all of your comments (you really thought BYU might get sent to play in Dayton in one of the last 4 in play-in games against a top 5 seed? Say it ain't so Joe....errr...Wolfie  )

 You might want to re-read what I typed - I was the one questioning Dayton being an opponent and the play-in game itself.

make it very difficult to lend any credibility to any comment you might make.

OK, whatever.

If you took the time to listen to the NCAA selection committee chairman, he mentioned in his interview how the committee to into account the entire body of work from November to March. Hence SMU's 300 plus OOC ranking and their 130'ish overall SOS left them on the outside looking in. Your premise that BYU's wins against Utah State, Weber State weren't "important" wins in your eyes doesn't mean they weren't important wins when the committee evaluated the resume.

Clearly, you don't know what I was saying - the Cougs lost 7 of their 9 important, quality non-conference games while also having 4 bad losses to teams ranked 110 or worse in the nation... just because you have a tough non-conference schedule shouldn't mean diddly-squat if you can't win the majority of them. Had BYU gone 5-4 or better, then they would have an argument to get in, but they didn't... they went 2-7 while losing to WCC powerhouses Pepperdine, Pacific, Portland and Loyola-Marymount. The CBS commentator who was upset that BYU got in has a valid beef... in fact, Green Bay (Wisconsin) should have gotten in over BYU.

Wolfie,

Stop before you embarrass yourself anymore. You continue to make comments that shred any semblance of credibility you may think you have. BYU lost "7 of their 9 important, quality non conference games..." Say it ain't so Joe...errrr....Wolfie. Fact: BYU went 8-5 during the non-conference portion of the schedule, yet you say they went 2-7 in their "important, quality" non-conference games? BYU had 4 losses during the non-conference portion of the schedule against teams in the "important, quality" category; Wichita St., UMass, Iowa St., and Oregon (who are all dancing btw), and 2 wins against teams in this category; Texas and Stanford (who are both dancing btw). BYU was 6-1 against the rest of the non-conference schedule, or those teams who you would consider to be non-important and non-quality. Like I said before Wolfie, nothing to see here. Now move along please :) Go Cougars!

1. Every game is important

2. No matter what argument he makes... the NCAA selection committee has spoken and they say he's wrong...

3. He's a BYU hater, nothing that comes out of him and his tin foil hat is going to be remotely objective

4. He doesn't belong here and I put forth that he should have been banned long ago and he had used up his get out of jail cards long ago.. renaming yourself doesn't matter, Airwolf was banned (more than once)... I don't care if you change your name to Chuck Norris, you still aren't welcome here IMHO. Trolling behavior is trolling behavior.. you offer nothing that benefits BYU fandom or the BYU athletic dept.

Impressive seeding for BYU. This comes from BYU's extremely aggressive non-conference schedule and willingness to play anyone.

Next year, other teams are going to follow what BYU did this year... play a lot (in BYU's case, 9) non-conference games against quality opponents, just win a few of them and you'll get into the tournament, especially if you're a top 50 program or play in a weak conference. The Cougs went 2-7 in the important non-conference games and were rewarded for it.

Basketball would be a lot more interesting if all teams did this. On the other hand, it would be nice to get these at home instead of all on the road. How did the Ute do on the road this year vs teams in the top 50?

BYU highly benefits if big programs and conferences seek out more difficult noncon games. We've had countless teams refuse to come to Provo, in spite of the fact that we would go to their house. Finally we take on some brutal road stretches and the committee rewarded us. So let's hope other teams see this and lose their fear of the Marriott Center.

I hope and pray that the big conference schools reach out and take on more tough road games... I'm not holding my breath. (there isn't a single controversial snub this year... schedule tough, schedule easy... all the teams that deserved to be in, got in... there weren't many surprises).. in fact the 1 team that might have had a shot at the dance due to weak scheduling was Utah... they had a piss poor noncom... however when you play cupcakes most of the noncon, it's easier to get up for a few home games...

BYU went through the gauntlet and thankfully were rewarded... but I don't think you're going to see a paradigm shift in terms of big conference noncon scheduling. I guess we'll see if Utah schedules a single tough noncon road game next year (outside of the L they're getting at the MC next year).

I think Coach Rose will continue to challenge his team during non-conference in years to come. I like the fact that both UMass and Stanford are coming to Provo next year and that the team is playing in the Maui Classic as well. Add the in-state schools and that is a solid non-con in and of itself. Go Cougars!

No Mika and no Aytes (assuming Aytes is on the team still) until the conference schedule means Worthington better get better real fast, Austin needs to discover something resembling an offensive game, and KC needs to be close to 100% before we start our conference sched. I also hope Nielsen is a nice early surprise. I wonder if they try to convince Andrus to leave early in order to keep Aytes and Sharp (but I would get Sharp to commit to gaining 20 lbs or he can go find a post grad home)

Mark my works though, next year the most improved player will be Frank Bartley... it's going to be very very hard to keep him off the floor next year. The problem is we're loaded at guard..

For what... making a case against the Cougs to get into the tourney? If I thought they were a legit tourney team, I'd be making a case for them. Fact: the Cougs have lost 7 of their last 9 first round NCAA tournament games. Fact: Cougs went 2-5 in their 7 important, quality, non-conference games. Fact: Cougs have 4 BAD losses on their resume to teams ranked 110 or lower in the nation. Fact: KC's loss now makes this team even less likely to make it out of round 1. Haws will need to get 40+ against the Ducks for the Cougs to have a shot to get to Saturday, but what are the odds that happens?

This board has a rule about banning people (and there was no question that you earned your past bans.. for goodness sake, some of your meltdowns were really bad) and then coming back under a new name.. apparently they aren't enforcing it, I think if you polled the board you'd be banned 4 to 1. You, airwolf are a troll, you bring nothing to the table, don't support BYU athletics and simply exist to be an irritant. This board is a better place without you.

The saddest part is that you simply know very little about football and basketball and your history proves that.

No matter what you say now, the selection committee thinks you're wrong, and they're the only ones that matter. Keep flapping your gums... it won't change, we're dancing.

I think the committee is making a strong push to keep NCAA OOC scheduling from going the way of NCAA football (looking at you, SEC). BYU gets in, SMU stays out. Gotta start playing good competition, people want to see good football.

The good news is Wolfie is as good as his brand. I do not need to read one word (and don't), because I already know what he'll be saying. In the end, the RPI don't lie and is pretty much the best measure of a season of work. And BYU's RPI justifies them dancing and at a 10 seed. Period. Exclamation Point. Finis

Agreed. Utah's OOC scheduling probably did them in too (plus a horrific last game loss to AZ)

Wow... was looking at Oregon's schedule... they lost 5 games by a combined 12 points (2, 4, 2, 2, 2). They could easily be sitting at 28-4. With KC, I'd say BYU has a 40% shot at beating Oregon, but without him, zero.

Ironic, you could say the same thing about us... (another reason airwolf can't be taken serious) ... keeping in mind overtimes which are always 1 point losses, I dont' care if the other team losses by 50 in OT it was a 1 point loss because 1 point keeps you from OT.

We were 1 more free throw from beating Oregon at their place... now we're on a neutral court. I think Oregon opens as 4 point favorites and I would say we're a coinflip. This game will come down to Mika/Austin... Oregon can be beaten on the glass.

Seems like a lot of people think BYU got better than they deserved and now have the pressure on them to prove the committee right. Look at this article for example: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/cougars/57691019-88/collinsworth-cougars-byu-committee.html.csp

This is a bunch of crap!

BYU is seeded right where they deserve. Their resume supports their invite and Seed. By nature of the seeding, they are expected to lose, not win. They don't have to win to justify their inclusion in the Big Dance, they got the invite, deservedly so. If they beat Oregon, it will be an upset and will turn a lot of heads.

It will take a lot to win this game, but I think we can do it. I give us a 40% chance of success.

The loss to Utah was an "important and quality" loss? Hahahahahahahahaha..........Sorry Wolfie but that loss ranks right in there with the losses to the likes of LMU, Portland, Pacific, and Pepperdine. I will concede you this point. Those were 5 bad losses that the committee overlooked in giving BYU a well-deserved #10 seed due to it's strong non-conference SOS and quality wins over the entire course of the season. If it makes you feel any better, BYU was only at least 5-1 against teams in this year's NIT field :) Good luck in Moraga tomorrow night. Go Cougars!

One of the things I've always enjoyed about this forum is that it's relatively free from abuse. It has become virtually impossible to carry on any kind of discussion on the ESPN website regarding anything having to do with BYU sports because of one troll who must have nothing else in his life, because he spends all of his time making inane, bigoted comments. I'm amazed that he hasnt' been banned from commenting there.

Although it's fine to have differences in opinion, when those "opinions" are nothing more than bigotry masked as sports comments, they become intolerable. I don't think Wolfie has fallen to that level, but it is clear that there is a consistent negative viewpoint. Fans are supposed to support teams, not tear them down.

Back to the game - I do think that it will be difficult without KC. But if everyone plays up to their ability and keeps their heads, they could pull it off.
