The bloody cuts are coming, folks. Rose has been letting the Cougar Club know his displeasure all season about the fact that a few guys are going to lose scholarships this season because of the mission-age change and the flux that created.

Rose says that if anyone gets upset about the cuts that will be made, they need to take it up with President Monson since he didn't see fit to consult with Coach Rose before changing the mission age requirements.

On the last Cougar Corner Podcast, I blamed President Monson on BYU's issues, and I didn't win the point.

Clearly, Coach Rose listens to the podcast and agrees I should have won the argument.

Good for him and good for us. Hopefully they are looking for a few good assistants for him. We need Rice back, or someone of that caliber.

I have no issue with BYU signing Rose to a five year extension. In his 10 year career he's taken BYU to more NCAA tourney appearances than any other coach, including 7 consecutive trips. You don't fire such a coach.

Is there room for improvement. Yes. Could we use some better assistants perhaps? Sure. But it's a well-deserved contract extension. Congrats, Rose!

I'm just getting over wanting him fired, a 5 year extension is way too long, in my opinion, let him prove that he can coach beyond when he has the NPOY on his team.

Yep, 5 year extension wasn't long enough!

Yeah, now he's proved he can coach when he has two NPOY-caliber players on his team!

Sorry, I though the wink was sufficient to convey the TIC nature of my post. One NPOY-caliber player can be an aberration, but three in this short amount of time means the credit for those players being at BYU in the first place (or being developed to that level) needs to be paid to Rose.

not only that, but these were not mcdonalds all americans... (though tyler should have been)

it's amazing the talent that's come out of utah county though.. it's a lot.. more than the entire town of fresno, and more than salt lake city area in the same period of time (in fact it's much more) ... so I don't know if that makes the argument for Dave Rose or not as a coach... but he did land them.. even if they were in his back yard (this isn't always the case with Bronco)
