Air Force will have their hands full trying to defend that air attack. Hopefully the extra prep time will help them prepare for it. A win would be huge for the conference.
Well I think it was MSN, that was saying that AFA is one of the top 10 Pass D's in the nation...
We absolutely picked apart that pass defense, which was #1 or #2 at the time.
Yes, but we had some good RB, and an awesome set of TE's they also turned if over 4 times.
Air Force's #1 ranking in pass yards allowed is a joke. Air Force has an opportunist secondary that will turn you over, but the paucity of yards allowed is more a function of (a) their triple option offense that milks the clock and give opponents 10 fewer offensive snaps per game, and (b) the weakest schedule I've ever seen as far as passing opponents go.
Air Force played these three passing juggernauts this season: (1) Army--#119 in FBS for passing yards per game, (2) Navy--#120 in FBS; and (3) Nicholls State--#115 out of 118 in
FCS in passing yards. Any team fielding a secondary with a pulse would be in the top 20 in the country if they played that schedule.
For an example of the plays from scrimmage, in the AFA-Navy game (two triple-option teams), there were 127 snaps in an overtime game. With overtime, that is still one snap less than the BYU-Oklahoma game. So, AFA is playing sucky passing teams, and then they are giving those teams fewer opportunities to run plays.
The following quarterbacks have had better than average pass efficiencies against the AFA this season:
Witt (+61)
Weber (+19)
Williams (+26)
Cain (+4)
Clausen (+12)
Hall (+11)
When 6 quarterbacks in 12 games have better than average outings against your pass defense, that tells me your pass defense is average at best.
