Against UNLV we owed Loyd a bit. He came through at the end with some clutch ball handling and shooting. I didn't see the UTEP game. He's inconsistent at this point, but more minutes ought to work that out and these next few games are the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Lloyd redshirted last year. Does that make him a freshman this year, or am I missing something?

Loyd played his freshman year and then reshirted so he is a redshirt sophmere now.

totally agree with Gunk,Loyd came up very big vs. Vegas,he had a little step back in the very last few minutes vs.UTEP when they ratcheted up the pressure on defense. he made a couple of TOs,but again other guards with more experience make turnovers and he has the talent to make big plays for us as well. the increase in experience seems to be all he needs to get to the next level, therefore should benefit from the Jammer's absence for a few games.

What I've enjoyed with Loyd is that while yes he does seem a bit out of control, it's not like Jimmer is turnover free either. But the offense still seems to run effectively with Loyd and we aren't really seeing any offensive drop off. We aren't simply biding the time until Jimmer comes off the bench. We have a very effective back-up PG who can still get points put on the board.

agreed, and i was thinking of exactly the big TO game which Jimmer had against was it FSU? there was a game where he had i believe 6 TOs?but there is NOBODY on our team, other than the Jammer who drops 49 on somebody.although Durrant, who does the color analysis for KSL, has always maintained that we may see a huge game like that from JT before his career's over.color me dubious.

Jimmer's had four games with 5 or more turnovers: San Francisco (5); Fresno St (7); Nevada (5); Arizona (5). It should be noted that he had a positive A:T ratio in all but the Fresno game where also had 7 assists.

 Uhh, any assist to turnover ratio will be positive, unless Jimmer can figure out how to have a negative amount of turnovers... ;) In the words of Daaaaa Bears fans, Mike Ditka will FIND A WAY!!! ...modified for Jimmer, of course.

I think you meant greater than 1.

The issue, is not turnovers, every player is going to have some, and the point guard is likely going to have more than anyone else on the team because he handles the ball so much, and make so many passes.

The issue is this; when the game is on the line, late in the game, and the other team is pressing to catch up, can your point guard take care of the ball, break the press, get fouled--and make the free throws? In close games, this is how a lead is protected and you get a win. Loyd did not do that in my view, his turnovers (I didn't see the first half of the game) late in the game, and his missed free throws about made me scream. Haws (I think this thread on Haws got hijacked), on the other hand, had zero turnovers, made all his free throws and got several key rebounds, late in the game. Haws was impressive, Loyd was not.

I hope Loyd improves, we need him, and he needs to contribute; and he also needs to be solid late in the game, when the came is close.

No, what I meant was a 10:8 A:T ratio is positive (+2) while an 8:10 A:T ratio is negative. In every game, Jimmer had more assists than turnovers except The Fresno game when he had seven assists and seven turnovers for a net of zero.
