It had been previously announced that the @ Boise State game in 2020 would be on November 7 leaving Missouri without a solid date. Now they have one.

BYU Cougars - 2020

SAT, 9/5 @ Utah

SAT, 9/12 Michigan State

SAT, 9/19 @ Arizona State

SAT, 9/26 @ Minnesota

FRI, 10/2 Utah State

SAT, 10/10 Missouri

SAT, 10/17 Houston

SAT, 10/24 @ Northern Illinois

SAT, 10/31 OPEN

SAT, 11/7 @ Boise State

SAT, 11/14 San Diego State

SAT, 11/21 OPEN

One of 10/31 and 11/21 become a FCS game and the other becomes a BYE. Schedule is complete.

I'm pretty sure that Monson would like to see this game dropped altogether and a game scheduled with New Mexico take that slot on the schedule

That's a killer schedule and I'm not being complimentary. When possibly HOU, NIU, USU or SDSU currently are your best chances for wins, I'm without words.

Meh. Once they throw in the fcs team, looks like a pretty typical power 5 schedule. It’s just too bad we don’t get the easier games earlier in the season.

I agree with this. Scheduling a 2-10 season may not be the best move for a struggling program.

Yeah, tell me how many power 5 teams have a schedule where all but one of their opponents (Minnesota in this case) all were in bowl games (11 of 12 teams you face) the year before?

Sure, one or more of these teams could tank in 2020 (2 years from now), but there would be a lot of AD out of jobs if they were scheduling Group of 5 conference teams that all went to a bowl game.

Upside tremendous.

Downside, meh.

There is no single game that strikes fear into me (where it looks like an automatic loss). It’s a good schedule with tough but winnable games. If we are as bad as last year, it won’t matter who we play. If we are more like a typical BYU team, we will compete and have an entertaining year.

Being independent, we don’t have to worry about winning a conference and we don’t have a shot at a NY6 bowl game or higher without playing a solid schedule. If we can’t compete with these teams, we should reconsider being independent. I’m also expecting at least a few of these teams to not be as good in 2020 as they were in 2017.

This is a potentially a 1-11 schedule.

If you go 1-11, it's not the schedule.

Every year has the potential to go 12-0 or 0-12, the old cliche "Thats why we play the game"

The 1995 season i think was pretty meh, 7-5 or something like that. Sarkisian was supposed to be this grand QB...It turned out the 96 season was the breakout. Every year the team is different. That is why I love or am frustrated with college football. Some years we have the athletes and not the schedule. Some years we have the schedule but not the bodies to pull it off.

This years team will be different. But how?

My guess the offense will be vastly improved (nowhere to go but up) and the defense may be better off because of it. I'd like us to get back to the old slogan " A good defense is a great offense"

If BYU has to play 12 umass (not a given as last year proved) and NMSUs to become bowl eligible, it might be time to close shop.

Sports are cyclical. Schedule according to where you are on the wheel, is all I'm saying. This year's schedule would be better off filled with Iowa State, Oregon State, Fresno, SMU, Kentucky, Kansas, Bowling Green, etc.

Two seasons ago we were very close to being undefeated. Last season the wheels came completely off. Scheduling is not flexible enough to accommodate those kinds of swings in the pendulum. It’s a nice thought, but not entirely practical. At any rate, why should Holmoe assume that the team will not be back on track by 2020? If he thinks they wont be, he should fire Kalani right now.

So you are saying that Holmoe needs to spend more time looking into his crystal ball so when he schedules games 5 years out he knows how good BYU and their future opponents will be? :D

2020 is still three seasons away. For all we know, the schedule is filled with teams that'll be crap by then. Go back one year ago and BYU fans were estatic about the new season while BSU fans were wondering if their head coach (I think his name is Mike Harsin) would be fired at the end of the season. Today those roles are reversed.

BYU's schedule two years ago was supposed to be a juggernaut. Turns out that prognosticators were wrong. I wouldn't worry about 2020 until at least the 2019 season.

Our schedule every year should be:

1. Utah

2. USU

3. BSU

4. FCS team

5. other MWC team

6-8. 3 AAC teams

9-10 2 other G5

11-12 2 other P5s

That is a plenty challenging schedule that makes us likely bowl eligible most years, gives us a shot at 10 wins regularly, and allows for some national noise if everything breaks right.
