Our best OOC win looks to be ASU and they are far from the rankings.
Nevada's still probably the slightly better win.
I thought Neb was the best ?

Nah- They're no Arizona even.

as to the original topic, yes, it's possible, but no, it's not probable.

As has been observed, due to BYU's no Sunday play rule, that knocks BYU down 2 spots. So a 3d seed is most probable if BYU wins out.

I still see BYU going undefeated at home and losing 2 games on the road in conference. If they win the UNLV Invitational, I see a 3-4 seed. If they lose, I see a 5 seed if they finish 30-4.

It always helps to win all your games. If BYU goes undefeated in conference play, and smokes everybody in the MWC tourney, yeah, it's possible, but not likely. Still nobody believes BYU is much good. So until they go put a beat down on a top ACC team, or a top Big East team, nobody's going to believe they're much good. And since nobody ever gets to watch them play, the voters will never know until we go knock off some big boys.

St. Joe's is a small school from Philly, with little history (most of it ancient). In 2003-2004 they finished 27-0 and were #1 in the final poll and got a #1 seed. They lost in their conference tournament and then made it to the Elite Eight before losing to Oklahoma St.

IF BYU were to run the table (including the MWC tournament) they would be 34-1. Think about it. THIRTY-FOUR and ONE. Every other team in the nation could have two or three or even four losses. BYU could be in the top 15 today and there are still seven or eight more weeks of rankings to come out. BYU could easily make their way into the top 3 by then - if not higher. They would be riding a nation long 29-game win streak. BYU COULD get a #1 seed. At worst, IMO, if BYU did this they would be a #2 seed.

It all depends on what happens to the current top 10 teams for the rest of the season. Winning out alone won't put us at a #1 seed, a lot of funny things will have to happen up top in order for us to be ranked 4 or higher.

BUT: a 34-1 record would almost guarantee a #2 seed.

No, as over half the teams ahead of us, play someone else ahead of us, many top 15 teams, will play at least 2-3 more top 15 teams, Conference play will decide this, as everyone but 1 per conference MUST lose.

Not a chance we get the one seed if we win out ... unless kentucky, and texas just fall of the face of the planet. We would get a 2 seed at best, but probably a 3 since we never ever win in the tourney. My guess is we end up a 6 seed after only losing 3 games and get matched against a good major conference team that just had an off year. We desperately need to get to the sweet 16 this year, to give us some credibility.

I'm not sure I'd want the pressure of being a #1 given our past tourney history.

A 2-4 would be amazing and I think it's within reach.

This team is breaking all sorts of new ground--from best starts to individual performances to dominating team victories...so I say with this team it sure is possible...But whether we are seeded 1st or 4th, the beauty about BB is we get to settle it on the Court and not be subject to some assine computer programs and biased voters compromised to protect certain schools and conferences...

Let the Cannibalism start Kans state, just knocked off Texas.

Texas looked like crap.

I don't know how on earth that team manages to win so much. I've seen them play a few times this year, and they looked very sloppy and undisciplined.

I thought it was the Mini-Shaq--Pittman that was crushing people inside.

I'll be happy with anything 7 seed or higher. As long as we are an 8/9, we just won't win those games. And all this talk about #1 seeds...personally I don't want BYU to become a trivia question that asks "What was the first #1 seed to lose in the 1st round of the NCAA bball tourney?" Is my lack of confidence showing yet? I like this team a lot...I just wish we had a Wake Forest on our schedule to see where we're at. Winning tough conference games on the road this next week will prove we are better than last year, but is that enough to get excited about a run in March? I don't think so.

I agree with absolutely everything you just said.

We have a great team, but BYU is so consistently inconsistent that we are the type of team that - even if we were good enough to win out - I could EASILY see dropping a game to a decent 16-seed team. In fact, in all honestly, I would rather have a 3/4 ranking. We'd stand just as good a chance against a 13/14 seeded team, and there would not be nearly as much embarrassment from a loss.

it's unsettling to be a fan, especially when your team has lost on the biggest stage consistently over the last few years,to continue to be optimistic.for that reason it's hard to argue with someone like mizzoucoug when he is pessimistic about our chance to breakthrough this year and get to the Sweet 16 and reverse this trend. He's also from MIssouri obviously, and therefore the "show-me state mentality" becomes a factor. However, i would argue that the poor performance streak in the tourney has to end sometime, and that there are things about this team which make this eventuality more likely this year than ever before.#1,emergence of inside presence with the triumverate of Miles,Davies and Hartsock playing good defense and taking pressure off the outside game to have to score.we aren't seeing the 3-6 min scoring droughts which have always been the hallmark of Dave Rose's teams for the last several years, when the outside game goes south.#2 guard play.this is a tournament must and teams generally go as far as their guard play will carry them.in this mix I include not just the Jammer/jackson combo as well as very capable back-ups of Morgan/Loyd,but also our slasher all-purpose Iceman who is part of the guardline in reality, the shoe-in MWC freshman of the year Tyler Haws.#3,the onball ability to guard with Jackson,Charles and Loyd, any which is capable of shutting down a big time scorer for the opposition.#4,the wild card that is JT.this is a real plus this year precisely because we DON"T HAVE TO HAVE HIM SCORE TO WIN! what we get from JT is really simply a bonus.now,it was important to have his scoring when Jimmer was out but not with us at full-strength.recently he has been a strong plus that the opposition does have to game plan for.#4 free throw shooting.we have been money in all kinds of situations this year when the game is on the line, and have several guys on the court in crunch time who are shooting above 80%.this is huge.in short this is a very versatile and deep team that's rolling,I'm not sure I can say much more to help assuage your doubts and fears.

If BYU wins out, their seeding would be irrelevant--they would be the NCAA tourney champs.
