Ya, he kept slippin' in the backway...but couldn't get the ball in the rim. Those 2nd chance points/paint points nearly got the best of us. Thanks to team leaders play, I reckon we'll hit elite 8!!!

Hopefully that's a one game issue, not a chink in the armor. Rose needs to make sure hitting the boards is a focus at NM. That game would not have been close if the cougars get the rebounds they should have.

I wonder if Rose told Abouo that he was going to save him for the second half. It was Jimmer's scoring and the team's rebounding the second half that won it.

Great game. This team's mental toughness is something to behold...they had every reason to led this game get out of control, but we have playmakers (finally) who can change a game. One thing I will say that was a glaring weakness however...if we had a shot blocker and an average inside presence on offense, I think we might be the best team in the country...Go Cougs! Let's do the same to UNM.

I think you could call davies/Miles average on both D and O. Certainly nothing spectacular but, they've got the job done so far. They don't hurt us too much, except those annoying offensive rebounds. Both are getting better when they touch the ball inside (rarely). I think it's too bad that they didn't get the ball more tonight because the lane was wide open with all the pressure on the perimeter.

Here's the thing, we don't necessarily need a big-time center like Araujo to have a presence down low. BYU's problem is they don't really run any plays in the paint. You don't need a dominant center to send someone back door or off a screen like SDSU did tonight. Noah does it on occasion but lately he seems to have let up on that. BYU chooses to use the center as a way to run the ball across the court and get the ball to its guards.

To have a more of an inside presence, all it takes is Rose shifting his focus there, but that's always been an Achilles heel for Rose. When it comes to establishing an inside presence Rose has some learning there. It's not his style. Thing is, won't matter how high of a seed we get for the NCAA tournament; if the opposing team has a strong inside presence they'll have that all day against BYU.

Gunk. I don't think you have a clue about what your talking about.

;)

Agree entirely. I just think that if our guards knew how to threw an entry pass our bigs could actually surprise some people with some points. Every once in a while it would be nice to get 15-20 points out of the Davies/Miles combo.

Totally agree with you on the guards as well. There were many times where Miles or Davies we're posting up 1:1. All the guard needed to do was to get the ball down to them, but it looked to me like they consistently hesitated. Rather than recognizing the post up and capitalizing on it immediately it was almost as if they would look to the middle, see the post up, then look around the court for someone open up top, and then check back to the post to see if it was still open. By then there would be an extra SDSU body down low so no more 1:1 opportunity. Noticed a few times too when there would be a drive to the basket and SDSU would collapse on the guard/forward there would be a wide open Miles or Davies down low. Quick dish and it would have been two points, instead it was either a forced shot or a kick out.

Interesting, as soon as Abuou comes in BYU takes a 10 point lead. He's brought some physical speed in right nice.

I was calling for him to come in nearly the whole game. We needed his physical presence.

You don't think that SDSU was playing a little bit physical, do you? :skeptic: ;)

By the way, do you still think SDSU sucks? ;) ;) 8)

In the past I would've said that you can't shoot 50% every game and expect to win. It seems as though shooting 50% is not an issue with this year's team. However, this game would not have been close if we had established something down low--this is the same pattern by which we lose in the tourney. Remember the beginning of the 2nd half, all we did was jack up long shots until after the timeout Haws drove and got fouled. This team just seems to forget that getting to the line and scoring lay-ups is much more effective (against great teams) than hoping we shoot lights out. Ramble done.

The Pit will be rockin... it would be quite historical if we could pull that one out.

Either way, a split on our toughest roadie of the year is a win; sweeping it would be amazing.

JT almost coughed the game away, I wish they had put in Morgan to help hold onto the ball instead.

Yeah that was ridiculous. JT trying to be a point guard was A LOT stupid. We we're all screaming at the TV when he got his pocket picked at the end of the game. Abouo was a game saver in the second half though.

I certainly have more respect for them after this game.

However, I also think that this is the most inspired, passionate, and overall "good" performance that we'll see from SDSU all year. This was their only (and will be their only) sold out game all season. This was their best, folks, and they lost.

It was their 2nd sell-out this season so far.

This was their big shot at glory. Recovery for next game will be difficult

I was up til about 4 am last night (our 3 yr old wasnt' feeling well) and ESPN didn't mention the BYU game once...

A #13 ranked team wins a big roadie and it got no press from the world wide leader in sports news.... shame on you espn

Agreed. I watched College Hoops Final (or whatever its called), and all I heard was Katz mention BYU's name once in the wrapup of the day. Less than 3 seconds total coverage. It sure looks like ESPN is trying to implement the tree-falls-in-a-forest strategy with BYU and the MWC. Shame indeed.
