Puma, I still don't get where you're getting this idea that Holmoe hasn't done anything with the schedule. All the series with UW, ASU, Arizona, UCLA, etc have been announced during his tenure. So until you can provide evidence to the citing where those deals were signed, sealed and delivered prior to Holmoe's "taking office" your arguement is bunk. Even if those were initiated under the Hale era, Holmoe still would have had to get the other schools to go through with them.

The bottom line is most of the schools don't have much to gain by beating BYU. All it does it weaken their case that this BCS is superior to the non-AQ conferences. But it's becoming increasingly more evident that even the BCS programs need a moderately tough OOC SOS. If Texas for instance had a deal with BYU in place for the 2008 season, they wouldn't have watched OU, the team they beat during the season, go to the BCS championship game while they got left behind.

I don't know that I would have given in to Texas just yet for a one and done but you can't argue with the fact that Texas is a top five program, or that we are between a rock and hard place with just over 18 months to fill three games. Considering the circumstances, I'd say Holmoe is doing about the best job anyone could possibly do in his same shoes.

Don't have any specific evidence citing that Holmoe didn't ink these schools to come play in Provo other than my memory, but I have Puma's back. All of these games were lined up prior to Holmoe taking over. All Holmoe has done is get 1-AA teams and Utah State to come play in Provo. (Not to mention having Nevada, ASU, and UW back out of games scheduled before he got here)

The best thing that Holmoe has done since taking over is getting the Allstate logo removed from the fieldgoal nets when security raises them at the end of the games.

I guess its up to you if you want to go on believing that he is doing a good job at getting teams to come play in Provo... Is your last name Holmoe?

I assume Holmoe was responsible for getting the 4 games series with Boise State on the schedule, but I discount that due to the fact that both schools know that BSU will be in the MWC and this makes it so they don't have to drop contracted games when they join the league.

I blame the BCS era more than Holmoe on this one. The BCs has killed our scheduling because teams see they can take the Florida approach, play 7 home games and play no one OOC and still make it big. Why risk a shot at a BCS bowl by playing Utah, BSU, BYU, TCU or Houston? I give credit to OU, Texas, USC, Michigan, VTech, etc for being willing to take these games. They are the minority these days.

Again, until you can provide evidence showing the games were lined up prior to 2005 when Holmoe took over, don't bother bringing it up. Even if all you can do is say you are/know Val Hale and he had already had the deals in place that's something.

And as for BSU. I wouldn't count on them joining up just yet. I think we can still make it based on our own merits. We are at least as competitive as the Big East and ACC as is and most years are right there with the Big-10 too. We've also performed quite nicely against the Pac-10 the last few years. If we're not worthy as is, we'll never be worthy with the addition of BSU because they'll find a way a to keep us out again.

Texas just picked up the #2 and #4 nation recruits in this class. both play defense. And I expect both will be on the field v. BYU in 2011. That game, which will be very tough, may have gotten tougher. Let's hope their offense continues to stink it up.
