Yes
what does that have to do with kona? I have not heard anything that suggests that he drinks. if that is what your suggesting lets please not go there while he is still making his decision.
I don't know if at has anything to do with Kona or not, but I can tell you that I grew up in Hawaii and the vast majority of the kids I grew up with (LDS or otherwise) were raging alcoholics. Small sample size and shouldn't lead to a general conclusion, but that was my experience.
I guess the definition of "alcoholic" has changed to include anybody that hangs out at a party and has a beverage. I had plenty of friends that "partied" while in high school but repented after they graduated, went on missions, got temple marriages, attend the temple, and have been faithful to those covenants they made there. And I say repented in place of matured. I used to go hang out at the parties on the point just because my friends were there. I never imbibed because I didn't grow up in the church and had already sworn off any such behavior. My being there actually encouraged many of my LDS friends to not partake which wasn't my purpose-I just wanted to be with my friends. But I will say that they do it less than what I have seen from the kids here in Ohio. I don't know of very many families there that keep their brew in a fridge in the garage where the kids can get to it with no questions asked. Around here it seems every third or fourth house is "proud" of their "beer cooler". So I think the problem is nationwide not just in the islands, and on the North Shore I would bet that is does not top the national average for "alcoholoics" in high school.
I also think it pretty low to suggest that because a recruit even acknowledges an offer from another school as a question into their character and the desire to not live the honor code. Drinking in college is ilegal in all 57 states (Obama's count not mine)for everyone under the age of 21. So regardless of where they attend they cannot drink until they reach the age of 21. It is a sad commentary however, that many underage students in college do drink without any accountablility.
