Yeah, he is. Like another QB on our team, Covey.

That brings up a question that I have had for a long time. Whaat has happened to Covey? I haven't even heard or read his name sinse fall camp started.

I thought they moved him over to defense in the secondary. They've had him be the number 1 QB for the defense when we prepare for Air Force with his option-style of play. Which is what he was in high school I believe.

I can't wait to see Van Noy and Jordan Pendelton play together. Pendelton's a frickin' beast. I'm calling it now... He'll be MWC defensive player of the year next year(might be extreme with how awesome TCU's D has been these last few years).

This is my fear for Nelson. Say Covey/Nelson are 6 of 10 as a QB/WR/DB. That shows athleticism. But when we have a 9 at QB and 8s at WR and DB, being able to do a lot of things okay still doesn't get you on the field.

Good point, but it sure seems to me that as good an all around athlete as Nelson is, he ought to be able to land somewhere and do well. I still think what I thought when he was in HS. If he were in a position where he got several touches per game, with several play options for each situation, He would be a defensive nightmare for other coaches. He was a one man wrecking crew in HS. That doesn't necessarily make him the best QB for BYU, but it could make him an amazing complement to the best QB.

He was the ONLY player at Utah State, as well.

Nelson should be the #2, and BYU should use him with the "Wildcat" Formation 5-7 times per game to mix things up

Bronco said no wildcat at BYU.

Not only that but, technically speaking, a QB doesn't play "wildcat." Nelson would just be a QB with a propensity to run.

I've already said that I don't remember Bronco ever saying "no wildcat". We've already seen it, albeit extremely limited, with at least Austin Collie and Harvey Unga. And who knows which of those Riley Nelson plays last year were actually "wildcat" or just Riley taking off after his first read didn't pan out. I think it's obvious that the wildcat will never be the foundation of BYU's offense, but they'd be silly to not utilize the talent they have like Nelson, Covey, or Phillips, etc to throw a few plays in there every game to keep a defense honest and guessing. We've already seen it. We'll continue to see it more and more too I predict as we get more and more the type of athletes that can run it.

I wonder if Nelson is impressing receivers with his perfect throws.

Poor kid.

You've got to feel bad for R.N. if Jake continues to do what he does, but I am all for a superstar Heaps and won't cry a tear after Riley... sorry man, maybe Jake will still go on a Mission...

Being able to throw a nice ball in drills is one thing. Playing the game at college speed another. HS speed and D-1 speed are way different, and Heaps will take time to adjust to that. Until I hear or see how he kid adjusts to the speed of the game, no way to make a judgment. Riley has that edge over Heaps and Lark. Heaps, like Nelson, also needs to improve arm strength. Heaps is accurate, but does put a lot of air under it, as was seen in the Army HS game.
