Mostly I'm posting this cause I couldn't find a great place for the picture.

Metaphorically, Araujo set the tone that BYU needs to take vs UNLV this Sat. Get the lead early and never back down. Let UNLV know that you are the better team and that they will be playing on their heels the whole game.

I read through BYULV's write up about playing at T&M and realized that I may have been in attendance the last time BYU won down there. Same game that the above picture was taken acutally. BYU should have won that game easily and UNLV took it down to the wire. This Sat. BYU needs to be the aggressor. They've built leads in Vegas the last couple years and slowly seen it fall apart after UNLV gets into the bonus during the 5th minute of the second half. As the lead disappears, BYU gets timid and begins making poor choices. For BYU to win, they can't get in their usual @lv funk.

What they must do is what has worked all year- play tough D and keep the offense efficient. I wouldn't mind seeing Jimmer get a little more rest than usual as Morgan and Loyd are effective and quick enough to bother some of UNLV's guards (and played great against them last game). This is a game that the cougars should/will win.

Agreed, BYU needs to stay aggressive and not let up on the gas pedal. My worry is if UNLV makes it close Jimmer will try to take over. UNLV will swarm him and unless he recognizes that and passes the ball rather than trying to create as he's prone to do, we'll be in trouble.

UNLV will likely start to pressure our guards a few feet beyond mid court. If BYU works it around rather than trying to beat the pressure off the dribble we'll be fine.

I know we're not one to do it, but this would be a good game to pound it inside.

Been waiting for BYU to do this all year, especially against someone like TCU or San Francisco etc. But they stick to their guard play pretty well.

I REALLY don't see it happening this weekend with Miles and Anderson. If Davies was available it would be a huge boost to our inside offense vs UNLV. I'm just hoping Hartsock has a field day with the interior of UNLV's defense when they go small.

As you mention this is not really who we are.Going back the last several years our bigs have been almost complete no shows and really a liability against UNLV when they've been on the floor, particularly in their gym.I can't remember wether Hoffa may have played well against them, but more often than not having Miles or Plaisted on the court hasn't benefitted us much. Now if we can get some production from Hartsock or slashing from Charles,it could be a real plus, but for us to win we'll have to be who we are,and that's hitting our outside shots, limiting their touches by not allowing offensive rebounds with multiple scoring opportunities in the same possesion, and playing tight defense. We can do this, but I don't think it's going to be easy.I absolutely hate it when they get that "rebel, rebel' chant going,'cause it usually means they're rolling.

I'm worried about Davies missing this game. Davies is a quick defender and when you play UNLV that's what you need. Anderson looks like he's dragging a barrel through sand and I'm afraid of him getting burned all day. I expect it to be a fast paced game so I hope that our guards are shooting well.

I can't stand UNLV, they are my most hated team behind :utard:. I can't stand their little Rebels, Rebels, Rebels chant after their fight song which they play every 30 seconds!

Davies is a liability against a quick small team; this is where he's been getting in major foul trouble, where mentally he's a step late (ala UNM - in 6 minutes of play he had 4 fouls and 2 turnovers... that could have been the difference in that game);

if there was a game I don't think we'll miss him, it's UNLV. Abouo and Hartsock will be counted on to keep their smallish forwards out of the paint and Miles will be used when BYU wants to force UNLV to account for him.

I'd much rather have Brandon out the next week or so, than later in the conference season and in march. He could probably use a break anyhow, he hasn't really been a serious contributor for nearly a month.

Davies has 62 fouls in 299 minutes played. Contrast that to Hartsock, who has 43 in 546 minutes played and Emery (who's our best and most aggressive defender) has 57 fouls in 636 minutes played.

As far as rebounds, Charles about has played 14 less minutes than Davies, has 4 more rebounds, and only 33 fouls. So for those that think that Charles gets lost on the court sometimes (which he does) he's still quite a bit ahead of Davies as far as effectiveness when he's on the court.

I forgot Davies will be out...

I know we struggle down low against UNLV and I know an inside game really isn't our thing, but I can dream can't I. 8) UNLV has a knack for getting at our bigs, but I'd love to see Miles get the ball down low and Noah streak in for the dish.

Finally some relief for the Dish Network guys!! As a Dish guy I've gotten to know Wrubels voice very well. :)

Amen to some relief for the Dish Network guys...not only have I gotten to know Wrubell's voice that much better, but I've also made 4 trips to the MC from Idaho this winter with one more planned on Feb. 27 for the New Mexico revenge game (hoping for a sell-out with the MWC title all but locked-up by then), and I have met some guy named Justin TV via Aztec Fembone (appreciate the help Mars, but alas that one didn't work out) and Rhino somebody (don't understand how this works at all, just hope I don't end up in jail someday for it...) that made viewing my beloved Cougs possible. Being a die-hard Cougar Fan and now being an "empty nester" with one student in Provo and one in Logan (I refer to her as her Mother's daughter) has given me more excuses than ever to make the trip south. This has been a fun season and can't wait to cap it off with a great run in March!!! Go Cougs and thump the Rebels!!!

My fear in playing UNLV is always that they drive, drive, drive.

They did as much in Laramie the other night and they racked up the fouls and went to the line. Wednesday night though they were hitting just as successfully out on the peremeter as well.

Other subject, Jimmer is on ESPN's home page again:

Davies and Abouo also turn over the ball WAY too often. But Davies definitely has the better offensive game- by 16 shots made.

Rose is 0-6 vs. UNLV in Vegas. Is it time for change?

You know how the Rebels roll: Defend tight. Get all the calls from the refs at home. Hack your leading scorer all game long, mostly shutting him down. Keep you to terrible shooting percentages. Drive fast and hard, and get the "and ones" to boot.

Will BYU miss Davies? Can the Cougars win despite all this?

I think so, but it will take more than just Jimmer. It would help if former Vegas resident JT has a big, efficient game.
