UNLV is shooting 60% and BYU is shooting 27%. That is why we're losing, not the refs.

Bellfield is shooting 33% from 3 on the year and is 2 for 2 tonight

Needs to be 20 points or less by half or BYU is done.

BYU should press. They have to change things up a little bit. At least pick up the ball handler further out so that high ball screen doesn't work every time.

Jimmer FINALLY hit a trey.

Horrendous defense. Jimmer is just looking around on the defensive end.

Then let his man blow past for the final layup. :~(

Not to mention his 3 from mid court with 12 seconds left

From what I could tell UNLV started on fire and we nutted up. This kind of thing has happened in the tourney before. Hopefully now that today's over we don't see it later.

I knew this was going to be a tough game but I did not expect to be smoked in every aspect of this game. Emery needs to show up. He's 1-7 in the first half. Miles needs to stay out of foul trouble because Anderson is pathetic on defense.

BYU came out looking like they were scared and nervous from the first possession. That half was an embarrassment. BYU did everything that they could to give that game away. REfs have nothing to do with lack of effort on defense and taking hurried shots on offense.

BYU lost this game in the first minute.

Which is why he'll have a great career in Europe.

When DOES Emery EVER show up for these games?

I really couldn't care less how many TCU's and Air Forece's he goes 4-9 on 3 pointers from. Or how many steals he gets against Southern and New Mexico St. I really just don't care.

UNLV, UNM, SDSU.... you name it. This kid just can't play with the big boys, and it's that simple. He'd tear it up in a conference like the MAC, but when it comes to being good enough to play against good teams? Forget it. He doesn't have game, it's really just that simple.

Jimmer is still just standing on defense. :~( :sulk:

To those who feel that criticism of your team is the best show of valor--- I say, it is rather a demonstration of weakness that you are afraid to speak the truth. You don't want to be labled a poor sport. Well, the truth is the truth, regardless of whether you are a poor sport.

It is pure craziness to not recognize that the officials set the tone for this game to go this way. One team grows more and more confident in playing an overly aggressive, rough style of defense, and the other team becomes angry and frustrated at the ticky-tack non-fouls inflicted on them. Is it any wonder that they are out-shooting us? One team grows happy smiles while they shoot without pressure while the other team feels more and more beat upon without getting calls. Perhaps the only chance BYU has now is for UNLV to go cold in the second half from complacency. Watch the officials go into make-up-call mode in the second half, but then revert back if it becomes a game.

If you wish to criticize your team, then you should at least make the observation that

the Cougars might do better at keeping the refs' behavior from getting in their heads and bringing them down (however, this injustice would wear ANYONE ragged).

Again, this conference is only fair to BYU when and if BYU is playing against a MWC member that has no chance of making it to a big post-season venue. The conference is responsible for these officials. There is no refuge for the MWC in saying that the officials are human, and just had a bad day. This lop-sided treatment went on at New Mexico, is going on now in LV, and was also perpetrated against BYU and the Utes when they played TCU in football.

I have lost respect for this conference.

If we can some how cut UNLV's lead down to 10 by the 10 or 8 min mark then we've got a chance. We're playing well right now.

Interesting point of view.

Rather blame an outcome of the game on things that can't be controlled, some us choose to look and focus on the things that BYU can control. Can't control the refs. Can't control how well UNLV shoots. Can control how BYU plays defense. Can control whether BYU takes forced shots. Can control whether BYU makes poor passes. Can control whether an inside presence is established. I highly doubt Rose is telling his team in the huddle that the refs are giving UNLV the game, it's the refs' fault they are getting blown out by 20 points and how he's lost all respect for the conference.

But if blaming the game on the refs helps you sleep at night...go for it. Just don't question other people's fan hood because they choose to look at the game differently. That's for other Cougar sports forums...

Is it the refs fault that BYU is being outrebounded by 10? Is it the refs fault that UNLV is shooting 60% and BYU is shooting 40%? Is it the refs fault that Emery has more tournovers than he does 3's? Is it the refs fault that BYU is shooting 28% from 3?

Blaming the refs in close games may be a valid argument but blaming the refs in a blowout is just stupid.

Don't forget our "stand and watch" defense, or our "try to pass it through UNLV defenders' bodies" offense.

What is up with the fouls, we breath, we get a foul, they almost sucker punch Noah, and Noah gets the foul.

When the refs make BULL SH*T calls, that make our best players have to sit, and won't call em on the other team, you can be blown out, and it be the refs fault.

BUT WE are playing like crap, but it is 1000x harder when your playing 5vs7 (Karma and refs) wth was up with UNLV's 9-11 shotting from 3 land ?

I was trying to repress those thoughts... :~(
