So tell me what you think about Brian Logan....

I'm not sure a little quick guard is a great matchup for us (see Lavender of Xavier); but our best chance against them is to clog the middle and make it a shooting contest; we usually win those. Thought there's no doubt that Jimmer will take advantage of a small guard if given the chance (I just worry about a quick guard getting some steals off our group of guards that aren't known for great handles)

But since you went there, here's a tribute to the BYU football little men.

Corby Eason recently set the all time record at BYU for vertical leap with 38.5"

and Lee Aguirre, set the DB (including safeties) record for squat 525 and power clean (340 lbs)

Brian Logan might have a little competition at corner, or Brandon Bradley might not be such a bad idea going to free safety with Eason, Aguirre and Buckner pushing them for the spot.

(BTW if the coaching staff decides to scour the earth for corners in a year where they perceived a huge lack of depth, why can't they do that every year and find us those diamonds in the rough)

I haven't seen more than five minutes of Florida basketball this year, but when I saw that one of their guards was 5'8, that was actually a concern for me too. Not that having size on an opponent isn't great, but chances are, if you're 5'8 and being recruited by a man who just won a national championship, you're, oh, greased lightning in a vaccuum. I agree with craig, that doesn't bode well for Jimmer. Hopefully it was just the illness(es), but from what we've seen of Jimmer, you put too much speed in front of him one-on-one, that speed doesn't stay in front of him long. That spells foul trouble to me. Another reason we turn this thing into a shooting contest. For being a small kid, he isn't the best shooter at .343 and .356 from 3. Keep him on the outside.

Another thing we can't expect to happen is pushing it up the middle and expecting foul calls. How many times have we seen it in the big show where the ref's seem to loose their whistles and our guys get hammered. We just need to worry about putting it through the whole and letting the fouls take care of themselves.

I think our team has experience playing with refs who swallow their whistles

Then again, Xavier's tiny point guard Lavender ate BYU alive in the NCAA Tourny 3 years ago...

This is part of Jimmer's game that he'll have to work on this summer. I don't think I've ever seen him post someone up. He either blows by people and scoops, or pulls up. In fact, no on on this BYU team is even good at posting up.

Actually I have to agree with Short Change here, I have seen Jimmer post up several times, and by far more than any other point guard I've ever seen. He's actually QUITE good at it. A few times he has even owned a Center or Forward with a post up move. I think we have seen a lot less of it lately though because he just doesn't need to bother posting up when he can run right past you to begin with.

Depth is overrated. Most overrated thing in sports. Name the last team to win any title because of depth. No, you win because you have the best talent that plays, and typically, the most dominant player on the court. Name the 6th or 7th man on the BYU team that made it to the Elite 8. I can name the starting 5, and that is it. Great players win tourney games, not depth. And for us to go deep, we need Jimmer to be GREAT and the supporting cast to be good. Trust me, our 7th or 8th man will not win it or lose it for us, but our starters will.

The season just got shorter, games more sporadic. Depth matters less even now. Easier recovery. Must win situations. I expect Coach Rose to shorten our bench now too. Short leash on JT would be a nice place to start. His 43% FG rate does not inspire me.

Ask Doliac and Miller how over rated Depth is. Depth may not be the be-all end-all, but lack of depth can certainly be the end-all. That being the case, when playing a team that lacks depth, sometimes the best weapon against them is depth. A center (or other players) with no gas left to run the court can't win a ball game against fresh legs.

I have to agree. Jimmer has posted with good effect several times.

Depth is not just about endurance in a game. its also about having a diversity of six and skill sets that help you match up with the different teams you see in the tournament or play offs. This enables you to match up with almost anybody if you are 'deep' in that sense and helps you go further in the tournament no matter who you end up playing.
