Spencer has been my favorite player from there for a while, Kahuku is famous and everything but Kamehameha is more classy in terms of players behavior.

BTW, DL Simote Vea, a returned missionary who transferred to BYU from BYU-Hawaii junior college, is also from Kahuku, along with Jray Galea'i, Spencer Hafoka, and Malosi Te'o. Travis Uale, Kalama Kaluhiokalani, and Aveni Leung-Wai are also from Hawaii, but different schools.

I still don't think Malosi counts, he went to American Fork High School and played 2 games his senior year for AFHS, and then had some sort of break down, and went to live with some family down there, and if it wasn't for the playoffs and him running for nearly a 1,000 yards in them down in Hawaii, (not sure if he actually reached it or not), He probably wouldn't of gotten much attention. I think he has wanted to go to BYU since I was in jr. high with him. So what I'm getting at is he was never around long enough to be effected by the guys in an anti-BYU sort of way, if that makes any sense.

I have come up with a theory regarding Ute fans.... If they have some sort of connection to Utah ( graduated from there, parents went there, etc ) they can be normal upstanding citizens and still be Ute fans. If they have no connection and still like Utah over BYU then 95% of the time they have something against the church and that is their only reasoning. Its sad but true.

I think you're onto something. My Grandfather, Father & Uncle all graduated from the UofU. They love to see the Utes do well athletically. But - they also love BYU (even though they did not attend the Y). Interestingly - when the U & BYU play eachother - they pull for the Y. But, still like to see the Utes do well against other schools. They have no animosity or stored up anger - they just enjoy sports.

Hmmmm ..... what is it w/ those other Utes fans?????

I don't think it's any secret that a large number of ewet fans are only 'fans' because they are mad at the church's political and social influence in the state.

I think I have to disagree. I will say that the HC of Kam is a Kahuku grad (and LDS) and is instilling the winning attitude and classy behavior that prevails at Kahuku. The church plays a vital role in many of the kids from there (Kahuku) and they are always trying to do things right. The coaches and teachers at Kahuku strive to keep the kids playing at a high level of sportsmanship.

As for Bronco, aside from Anae, he is the most popular BYU coach ever at Kahuku. When the coach from Hawaii was complaining about Kahuku sending their players to BYU and other mainland schools, the coach at Kahuku explained that the BYU coaches were on campus regularly and it made an impact. I remember being in Hawaii last year and hearing the buzz and excitement of many of the families that Bronco was coming to visit some recruits. He and Doman are very well liked and respected and have a great relationship with the community and team.

"Kahuku players' act of respect the picture of sportsmanship" - whole article

BTW- Notice who the kicker is.

Can't keep this Mule down!

blurb:

Another classy move, Reggie Torres and the Red Raiders sent Akagi a message through Mules coach Nolan Tokuda. In it, Kahuku expressed their concern, prayers, and wishes for a speedy recovery to Akagi.

Football is a tough, physical, collision sport filled with macho attitudes.

But it's good to see that good sportsmanship prevails in tough situations like this one.

FYI: BYU-Hawaii is a 4 yr university, not a JC (although it only has 2500 students). Also, it does not have a football program, so was Vea just going to school and now getting back into football? or what were his circumstances?

Did he really get married? or are you being sarcastic? I haven't talked to him since high school so I really have no idea.

"Served an LDS mission to New York, New York South ... married his wife Lauren in July 2009."
