If you have to say the words "Take it for what you will" and "This guy has been right so far," you probably don't have anything official to report, and should avoid labeling the news as "Official."

just sayin'

You guys need to relax. I just regurgitated the title. Seriously this is college football forum, not a law review journal. Its getting a little snooty i mean stuffy around here.

Neither title you linked to says "Official." In fact, they both make it clear that the news isn't official:

"Source: Nebraska regents clear path to Big Ten"

"Report: Nebraska "Informally" Agrees To Join Big Ten"

I think they must have changed the title because it said Its official when I linked it. the link above looks like a variation on that. why are we fighting about something so stupid. were not 2 year olds. we are all capable of reading the article and making our own conclusions. Don't forget this is just cougarcorner, a very small byu sports message board, not the new york times.

Again, Bleacher Report is about the last place I would go for anything official. Maybe you're willing to bet the house on the word of "Big Ern" but I'm not.

If it is Nebraska, I think that means Notre Dame is not moving, and it means Notre Dame is still arrogant as can be. They need the Big 10 right now. They are irrelevant the last 20 years, and a conference helps them. Too dumb to see it.

I hope the Big 10 just goes to 12 and stops. Then teh PAC 10 goes to 12 and stops. Then teh Big 12 adds 2 teams--1 being BYU. This makes the most sense all the way around.

All I know is that this is BLOWING UP all over the net right now. I think johnnylingo scooped it here.

Problem is, this is the first time you linked this page. If you would have linked that one the first time around, you would have saved yourself a lot of grief.

While I will forgive you for calling it "official," I still don't think it's official by a long shot.

The Bleacher Report is jumping out calling it official (because they have little credibility to lose if they're wrong) and cite to two other sites reporting a rumor to substantiate: orangebloods (who didn't call it official) and ESPN, who in part relies on orangebloods. Nothing is "official" until we have something official from an offical at Nebraska.

Bleacher report changed the title of their story. When I posted it, its said its official. I think you are being ridiculously lame. If this were the New York times I could see your issue, but its not, its a small cougar message with board. I hastily basically pasted a title to a link stating the ball is rolling which appears to be correct. You could save us all grief on this board by not wasting so much time posting about about the title and addressing the substance of the post.

I understand that Sno envisions cougarcorner as the sophisticated and more reasonable cougar sports board but it is becoming more of the "we like to fight about stupid irrelevant crap like making sure you have correct message titles than byu football." Keeping the emphasis on byu sports was the original reason many of us came to this site away from cougarblue. I find this moderation as annoying as no moderation.

Ok, according to the ESPN bottom line, the Big 10 is not waiting for ND anymore. Nebraska is the first domino to fall. Fox News Ohio is saying that the Big 10 has voted to extend an invitation to Nebraska.

Look for Baylor to replace Colorado as the 6th team to go to the Pac based on the academic report that came out today, if the Big 12 disbands that is.

The only way Mizzou gets to the Big 10 now is if all of a sudden ND changes their mind, and they may be behind Rutgers in the pecking order.

If the Big 12 stays together, how dumb would the Pac be to invite Colorado now, after they constantly talk about how important academics are to them, but they do need to get to at least 12, but who are they going to get?

This could get very interesting.

Before anybody here would like to share breaking information that may be interesting, please take note and be sure to title your post correctly so that it perfectly reflects the substance of the message. If you don't we would prefer you take your incorrectly titled information elsewhere. We are above incorrect titles here. This is Cougarcorner not some other lowly byu message board. Get the title correct or we don't even want to here about the actually information in the post :P

Yeah, but if the PAC10 invites Baylor, how hypocritical will it look inviting a religious school, when many have said they do not want to associate with a religious backed university? Only way I see this working is if they dump both Baylor and Colorado, take the other 5 and add Utah. And I am not even joking. But this will not happen, and will once again expose the anti-LDS sentiment for certain PAC10 schools. In particular, Cal-Berkeley.

It appears that all reports are linking back to the orangebloods.com report. So it better be correct. I assume it is and that the sources have been vetted. Especially since Nebraska has not commented or issued a denial. Considering the impact of this, no denial here is about as good as an admission.

Dude, you're the one that needs to take a chill pill and relax. Don't be so defensive. It's just an honest request. I know new rumors are flying out by the minute by I'm too the point that I don't care what Chip Brown has tweeted last. Until the dotted line is signed, I'd prefer just to skip over the rumor threads to try and get to the ones of actual substance.

And if you don't like CougarCorner, go somewhere else. A whole lotta cryin' here for one little suggestion.

Interesting. Could the anti-BYU sentiment be based more on the Mormon involvement with things like Prop 8, more so than it just simply being a religious institution? I don't know one way or the other, but it wouldn't suprise me.

Baylor can't really be associated with any unpopular stances other than just simply being religious. If the Pac 10 did allow Baylor into the conference, then this could speak volumes for the Pac 10 officials' true feelings towards BYU, and the church in general. Just a thought.

Nebraska is a big 10 program now; the question is what Texas and Oklahoma do now that the Big 12 north is a farce... My feeling is that the north schools will scramble and attempt to keep the Big 12 together by inviting BYU, TCU (easiest thing to do if the south schools underestimate the recruiting challenge) or Arkansas.
1- The Big Ten hasn't invited Nebraska, and won't if Notre Dame calls them soon.

2- Texas said they will leave if Nebraska does.

3- Texas wouldn't approve TCU if they stayed.

4- Arkansas to the Big XII is like Florida to the ACC. Not gonna happen.

If Texas was smart, they could always replace CU/Nebraska/Missouri with Arizona/Arizona State/BYU, moving Oklahoma/Oklahoma State into the North division, re-balancing the league. Then they should begin splitting revenue equally just to avoid future contention. Texas would have it's own network anyway, so the $1MM less a year would be worth it to not go through this insanity again.

1. Thy have invited Nebraska, it just hasn't been published... 810 whb stated that several weeks ago, the Big 10 denied it but you'll see this weekend (dont' forget I live smack dab in the middle of Big 12 country, the radio heads here are all over it)

2. Texas is leveraging everyone because they can...

3. I have no idea wha they'll do once Nebraska leaves, neither do you, neither does anyone.. not even Texas... Texas is one school that can afford to wait this out and then do what benefits them the most

4. Arkansas has not been winning the money sports in the SEC; if the Big12 found a way to make the money right, Arkansas would bail in a hearteat but ultimately the $$ in the SEC > and the Big 12 can't promise the kind of money that the SEC provides.

Sounds kind of like Socialism to me. If you want to make more money, then win. If Texas hadn't had the success they've had over the past decade since joining the Big 12 and still made the same amount of money, and wielded the same amount of power, then I'd say something is fishy. People deserve to be awarded the fruits of their labors, not the fruits of other people's labors. If the other schools don't like it, then get out. Oh wait...Nebraska!?

I'm in Boise right now and heard a little while ago on sports radio that the Big 10 has invited Nebraska, syracuse, maryland, rutgers, and ND and if all goes as planned will become a 16 team conference.

We'll see. Personally, I don't see anything happening for a while.

Also thought I would add that I find it funny that all the boise sports radio talking heads are complaining about how unfair the MWC is treating BSU by not giving them an invitation. Blah blah blah. I tend to think that the MWC is just playing it safe. With all the shaking up that is going on, the MWC could very well add someone who fits much better than BSU.

As I linked in another thread, ESPN's now reporting that sources indicate that CU already has a Pac 10 invite and the conference is poised to invite the other 5 Big 12 teams.

Source: CU already has Pac-10 invite

I actually think this might pose problems for the MWC because Mizzou, Kansas, K-State, Iowa State, and Baylor might be apt to join the Big East or C-USA for geographic reasons. If Syracuse and Rutger go to the Big Ten, the Big East could invite the leftover Big 12 schools and consist of UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Pitt, Mizzou, Kansas, K-State, Baylor and Iowa State. Mizzou will always be cuddling with the Big Ten until that conference arrives at 16 teams.

I guess the preferred MWC expansion would be Boise State, Mizzou, Kansas, K-State and maybe Baylor. If not Baylor, Fresno State or Houston might be decent possibilities, though Baylor does have a good athletics department.
