Well, if the conference ends up staying at 10, do ya'll want a round robin or to skip a team each year? I'm in the round-robin camp, even if it means one less non-conference game each year.
It's a big "if", but the MWC ends at 10, then play the current 8-team balanced conference schedule, with each team missing one team a year which rotates every year (or maybe two for home-home scheduling purposes). Also, each team is paired with a rival that they will play every year no matter what:
BYU - Utah
Colorado State - Wyoming
Air Force - Boise State
UNLV - San Diego State
TCU - New Mexico
So only BYU and Utah (okay, and Air Force) have to play a tough opponent every year.
UNM with their cakewalk..... ;) :P
Pretty much. It's mainly for the BYU-Utah and CSU-Wyoming rivalries. No one else has to have a paired rival, but it helps for scheduling if everyone does. I think Air Force - Boise State could develop into a good rivalry, because I fully expect the Falcons to give the Broncos fits their first few years in the conference. Air Force is a tough team to play if you don't play them regularly--or even if you do play them regularly. BYU has had their number, but TCU, Utah, and even Houston still struggle with Zoomies.
Anyway, you should see the Big Ten permanent rivals were/are:
Illinois: Indiana, Northwestern
Indiana: Illinois, Purdue
Iowa: Minnesota, Wisconsin
Michigan: Michigan State, Ohio State
Michigan State: Michigan, Penn State
Minnesota: Iowa, Wisconsin
Northwestern: Illinois, Purdue
Ohio State: Michigan, Penn State
Penn State: Michigan State, Ohio State
Purdue: Indiana, Northwestern
Wisconsin: Iowa, Minnesota
Michigan State has to play Michigan and Penn State every year and Ohio State plays Michigan and Penn State every year, while Illinois gets Indiana and Northwestern. Granted this year I'd rather play Michigan than Northwestern, but in most years that's probably not the case.
