Let's end the rivalry with this. I'm all for it.

I think it is a fallacy that Utah only sells out when they play BYU. that was the case before 2003, but not since. And the last few years Utah has averaged a sell out for the season. This game benefits both schools. Even BYU ups its ticket prices for the Utah game. About time, too. BYU needs to charge more and I think they undervalue their own product. A Big 12 bid might change that, though.

And taekwondave, the scenario you speak of sounds like BYU to the Big 12 by the end of June. You got some inside knowledge or this, or is it just wishful thinking on your part? All I can say is that if it happens, that is huge for BYU, huge for the state of Utah, and huge on a national scale. The state could boast something and offer something few other states can--top level football for 2 teams from 2 different conferences. The state of Utah would be CFB heaven.

Yes. Yes it would be CFB heaven. Can you imagine? "Hmm. BYU is off playing Oklahoma tomorrow night, but Utah is playing at home against USC tomorrow afternoon. I think I'll go to that and I'll watch the Cougs that evening." or "Hmm. BYU is playing Texas at home today. I'll be there in our newly expanded stadium of 80,000 going hoarse as I always do once a week, and...hey, the Utes up the street are in Oregon tonight playing the ducks. I think I'll cool down by watching that."

And THAT'S just FOOTBALL season. How about basketball???

"Who are we playing tonight? Oh. Kansas AGAIN? We just played Kansas St. the week before and Texas the week before that. I don't know if I can take any more of this. And tomorrow, UCLA is going to be up in Salt Lake? Oh, and the Jazz are playing Lebron and the...(who knows)."

Yeah. If we go to the Big 12 this would not only be football heaven but simply sports heaven. I may never even need to go on another vacation.

Is this reality or fiction? Well, I wouldn't just wish this out of thin air. I heard something. I heard a lot of it too. Enough to get me a little revved up. But expectation is a dangerous thing. Maybe we should just chalk conjecture up to nothing and learn to enjoy our current situation. If that changes, it will make it all the more enjoyable, and if it doesn't, we won't be so badly let down.

Again, the issue is where did you hear it, and what is their connection and reliability? Cougarboard does not count, but a source inside the BYU AD does. What you got?

Why end the rivalry???

We could possibly be the one thing standing in the frUtes way of a Rose Bowl.

If we played earlier in the year... I would love for BYU to be the ONE reason why they couldn't reach a Rose Bowl by exposing their weaknesses.

By the end of this month, all of our frowns will be turned upside down and as upset as we all are right now is how happy we're going to be before this summer comes to an end.

You'll think I'm crazy today but you'll call me a prophet in a couple weeks.

Sorry, but you were also the one who started the thread "Not so Fast. Utah's not going anywhere." so I will hold off on seeing "how happy we're going to be before this summer comes to an end."

News flash: Georgia-Georgia Tech is in November. West Virginia and Virginia Tech are not in-state rivals, and they haven't played their rivalry matchup since 2006.

I'm fine with playing Utah in the end of the year like Georgia-Georgia Tech or Clemson-South Carolina.

Whether you know something or not, being cryptic and evasive like that smacks of being a troll. If you have as ource, what is it? Or just your opinion? I have a similar opinion, but that is all it is, and I will admit it. I think it makes sense. But I surely do not know anything.

If you think calling me a troll as a a trick to get me to talk is going to work...well you might be absolutely right. Look, what I said about Utah was what I THOUGHT, what I just said about BYU and the Big Twelve is what I HEARD. The person who told me read it to me from someone who seems to be right about a lot of stuff lately. I keep fearing that saying something will be like biting the hand that feeds me or something but darnit, if you guys had heard this I'd be dying to hear what you heard too. We all need something to hang on to right now.

So here it goes: I HEARD that Utah somehow has BYU to thank for getting them into the Pac. I HEARD that Stanford and Cal blackballed BYU from their imminent entrance into the Pac following the Prop 8 thing. I heard that BYU and Utah were supposed to be either a package deal for the Pac (no pun intended) or a package deal with the Big 12, but when BYU was blackballed, Utah stabbed us in the back or something and were going to take the Pac deal without us. (My memory there is a little hazy.) I HEARD that some big wig Mormons with some big connections to Texas and OU had offered up BYU to replace Colorado if the Big Twelve could get them to leave without actually kicking them out. I guess they have had more problems than they could stand with CU.

(So basically, the Big Twelve and Pac worked together to get Colorado out of the Big Twelve. Had the Big Twelve officially forced them out I guess they needed to give some huge payout to them. Having the Pac invite them was much easier. I guess Colorado was a major pain for the Big 12.)

I HEARD that the Pac 16 thing sort of came out of nowhere when Nebraska UNEXPECTEDLY left for the Big 10 and the Big Twelve suddenly had to scramble just to keep everyone from bolting. (That last part take with a grain of salt. That part was fuzzy.)

Anyway, presumably, BYU has been in the works for the Big 12 for a while, and they are after Arkansas as their replacement for the sudden loss of Nebraska and BYU is expected to round out the conference.

What other reason, besides religion, would the Pac 10 want Utah over BYU? It just DOESN'T make any sense. BYU is CLEARLY the better market. CLEARLY the better facilites. CLEARLY the better option. At least that's what this guy said the Big 12 knows. He also said that the big wigs at Texas and OU have been very impressed with BYU's willingness to keep a lid on things during this whole mess. Holmoe apparently promised to keep it under wraps and they can barely believe BYU has kept their word on it like they have, especially with all this Utah stuff going down. It's his opinion, based on what he thinks he knows, that this month will PROBABLY not expire before BYU has an official invite from the Big 12 and "Tom Holmoe is hailed as some kind of genius." They are working with Jerry Jones to tie up the lose ends with Arkansas first I guess. If that doesn't go through, I don't know. I think (THINK this time, not HEARD) that it's a possibility that our little "hacker" down at that Texas radio station was no hacker, but simply someone at the station that received a tip and once it hit their twitter account, somebody told somebody to get rid of it, or they wouldn't keep their current reporting privileges. If what I've heard from this dude is true, and Air Force IS the second option if Arkansas doesn't pan out (BYU seems to be the constant here) then that would make sense to me. But again, that last part is not what I HEARD, but simply what I SUSPECT...BASED on what I heard.

I'm no troll. If this stuff is true I'm gonna be dancin in the streets of Provo in my blue birthday suit. And if it's not, I sincerely apologize for getting your hopes up.

Here's to hoping I don't matter enough that posting this will come back to bite us somehow. Go Cougs.

The story seems logical. BYU is a great fit and I really don't believe the Big 12 wants to stay at 10 teams for long now that the SEC, PAC10 and Big 10 all have 12 teams and a conference championship game. It's interesting that Chris Hill today at the press conference said that he looks forward to a continuation of the rivalry with BYU. Chris Hills and Tom Holmoe have a good relationship and it would not surprise me if Chris Hill made the rivalry comment because he knows that BYU will be in the Big 12 and the rivalry would be great because it would now be between two big conferences (and I really think it would help the whole demeanor of the rivalry from nasty to great competition) and he wouldn't have to continually schedule a game against a MWC opponent. The rivalry game winner could literally be to see who plays for a national championship. And maybe I'm wrong, but if Utah is playing for a championship as a member of the PAC10 and we are in the Big 12, I think I'll be more of a Utah supporter.

I've read the same thing your friend has read. And Mars later posted it on CC somewhere I think. It's interesting because the guy that posted about Colorado and Utah to the PAC did so back in February and everything (except the timetable) was dead on. So that, at least, improves his credibility. And he claims to be a Texas fan. So take all that for what you will, it is an internet forum rumor after all. If it's true then I think Nebraska leaving put a wrench in the gears though and that is why this Arkansas talk has come up.

I wouldn't mind playing against Utah now and again, but I would rather just meet them in the National Championship game and then let their party come crashing down  The rest of the time though we can be friends. I might even sport some Ute gear to watch them play USC haha

So, if these rumours turn out to be true one of the more interesting stories will be how Craig Thompson was played by Utah and BYU while he was trying to bring in BSU. Obviously UT and BYU had to approve of this move - either CT is being bulldozed or he has been trying to do everything possible to save the conference, and now that Utah has made it official he knows the conference is done once/if BYU goes.

I will admit that I "heard" it from a friend whose etc etc is on the BYU athletic dept staff

But it jives with daves information in regards to BYU being very quiet about a possible move and the short list of schools the Big XII "may" be looking at to add. He gave no timeline.

Again this is from a friend who heard it from etc etc but it for me was a separate source that somewhat confirms some things. Right or wrong ill leave it to your opinions

If this it true. Why didn't BYU pay the exit fee for Colorado and have it done all at once. I am sure donors could have come up with $40M or so to do it.
