The Y/U rivalry may stay the same, but it may change a lot. The big rivalry used to be Utah/Utah state. That has changed so much that it isn't even in the conversation any more. If the two schools remain competitive and play each other every year, it will probably remain strong.

I think that we will develop a much stronger rivalry with BSU because of the geographic proximity, the LDS influence in Idaho, and the competitive similarity between the two. The smack with the BSU fans is already elevated above about anybody but :utard: . It will grow fast as soon as they join the conference. I'm ready!!

Ever since people started referring to BSU as the new BYU several years ago I sure noticed the hair on the back of a few Cougar necks standing on end. Although the Big 3 in the MWC has been Utah, TCU, and BYU probably in that order for five years or so as viewed nationally - The BIg 3 in the region has been BSU, Utah, and BYU probably in that order as viewed nationally in football only.

If Utah starts to have difficulty scheduling us and starts to have conference games with more meaning than this game - I really could see BSU replace them as being the most hated, classless opponent each year.

I got my MBA at Utah, so I never did hate them and I owned a music store in Boise and got into their little pony act when they were still a 2-year school iirc. I think I even discovered the Clint Eastwood movie Bronco Billy at about that time. So I haven't hated either of these rivals. But if BSU punks us a couple of more times - I will definitely lose whatever fond memories I recall of leading the fans in the stands at BSU in a boisterous rendition of the national anthem that drowned out the singer on the field one Saturday afternoon back around 1980. I will even drop whatever fondness I still retain for Camille and Wendy - the 2 coeds my friend and I took to the game. But I will credit their fans for one thing - BSU Football was a really big deal to them even back then when they were absolutely nothing on the national scene but a JC power house or Lower Divsion powerhouse. They have succeeded at every level they have played. Expect them to do well in the MWC.

That may be true, which is frustrating. Going by wins, it's...

1. Boise State

2. BYU

3. TCU

4. Utah

Hey Bib, what music store did you own in Boise, and how did it work out? The old music store families (Dunkleys, Holsingers etc.) have a pretty strong foothold on the Boise music scene. I did, however, buy my first really good guitar from Peables-Winter, which was a smaller store, and not from one of the big music families.

I can't let go of my Boise ties, It is my home town, but I sure can't wait for the day when I can have the upper hand on my BSU grad little brother and a lot of my old friends. It's been really tough naving an 0pher record against them. I much prefer the situation with my 2 sons and grandson, who are OU fans. :D Whenever the subject comes up, they cry "Bradford would have won the game," (questionable) so I just play the Unga card. It's nice to have the upper hand.

It was back in about 1980. A guy that owned several music stores went bankrupt. It was back when interest rates had gone sky high and the economy stalled. He was hit by all of that. The high interest rates bit us too as the bank suddenly decided not to finance musical instrument purchases anymore.

We took over the old Red and Black Music Shack and renamed it Quickstep Music. We had a verbal agreement to buy all of the inventory from the bankruptcy trustee, but after we went back to Salt Lake City to borrow the money, the trustee backed out and there was a huge public auction - which killed the retail market for a while. We hired a young guy and his wife to move to Boise and run it for us. I Lived in SLC and my partner lived in Chicago. Previously, before moving to Chicago, my partner had managed a branch store from a SLC company named Progressive Music. That was how he had contacts in BOise and learned about the aforementioned bankruptcy.

Our young store manager was a bit too immature and I started to get phone calls from vendors letting me know that his band was practicing in the store when he should have been open. It was short lived - my only real business failure - but I don't recall ever having as much fun as we had when we came up to Boise to check on the store and hang out at Lock Stock N Barrel and Idaho City and other spots.

I had a chance to transfer to Boise a year ago - but my wife nixed that.

So I remain in the other paradise - Honolulu!
