All I'm asking for is a little discretion. Trespassing isn't the same as going to go grab burgers. Not demanding perfection, just some common sense. Jake is a leader. He should have enough sense to tell guys, let's not trespass. If we want to get in the stadium there are other ways to do it. It's all I'm saying.

If it was just to go in and picture themselves making plays on that very field, it is indeed fantastic. Bronco did the exact same thing with the entire team his first as the coach. Understanding the uniqueness and history of the LES is a key component in BYU's success in the stadium.

But the simple fact is, they got caught being where they weren't supposed to be - or at least being there without the proper permission. This isn't a story and it shouldn't be a story. But you know it will be. The guys at the Trib and 1280 will eat this stuff up and it'll be a big discussion tomorrow and all week on the radio. And this whole story wouldn't even be around if Heaps had shown some discretion and gotten permission.

This reminds me of ONeill before the first year. He made some pretty tame comments about some teammates. They got blown way out of proportion and now freshman can't talk to the media. If OC had more experience with reporters and been in the system a little longer, the comments would have been better phrased and he would have been more experienced in dealing with reporters.

Jake will learn from this and has probably already talked to Bronco about it and I wouldn't be surprised if he's introduced himself to all the security staff who monitor the stadium, so that they know who he is and why he may want to come and picture himself succeeding on that field from time to time.

I'd much rather him learn the lesson of discretion in this pretty tame event than something much more serious.

its getting a little stuffy in here. This is ridiculous. Its hardly trespassing in my opinion. Thats like saying deron williams is trespassing when eh goes to the energy solutions arena after hours. just silly. This is no bid deal. stop making it one.

Not to mention the false claims. "Jake jumped a fence". Says who?

Are you kidding me?

I will drop it and won't post again on this incident. But it would probably still be wise for Heaps to avoid similar situations in the future.

agreed, though none of us were blessed with a great deal of discretion at that age; and none of us were the #1 recruit in the nation. Combine those 2 and you can forgive a kid for daydreaming about more national championships at LES.

I think I'll start a new thread:

Top 5 things that were going through jake's head as he walked the hallowed halls of Cougardom on his own.

nah.

Maybe he's secretly living there like Rudy at Notre Dame?

It's pretty simple really. If BYU doesn't want people in there, then LOCK THE GATES!

Don't blame some kids, especially football players for going inside and checking things out if you're not even willing to lock the joint up. I've been in LES countless times before all because the gates were wide open and I wanted to check on the progress of the grass, video board, etc.

The bottom line as I see it: If you don't care enough to lock the place up, no signs are posted warning against trespassing, and no harm was done, then you simply let this go.

On a side note, what the hell does BYU police beat even have a twitter account for? Is it not bad enough that you are the biggest joke to all your students, now you want to be a joke for all the world to see? Why do we have to air our dirty laundry on a public forum like that? What's more, the only people who would even follow something as ridiculous as that are pukes who want to try to find some nugget to rub in Cougar fans faces or a reporter that has nothing better do it with his time than scour twitter and facebook posts for a non-story.

Did you notice that Jimmy Kimmel is a follower? That should be validation enough that it's a joke.

I've "trespassed" at LES. And Boise State's stadium. And Wyoming's.

I've also driven up to the front gates at TCU, CSU, and New Mexico's football stadiums to check them out (but the darn gates were locked!).

Rudy trespassed at Notre Dame, and we all know how that turned out!

I have been tempted many many times to submit stories from the BYU police reports to Jay Leno's 'headlines.' But out of deference I have resisted; I am afraid too many people with laugh at us and not with us!

You mean the guy who played for Notre Dame for one play and one sack and got an awesome movie made about him?

Hopefully Heaps' career has much more play, much less movie, but I wouldn't mind him being carried off the victory field a few times.

I just pray that when Heaps is forced to do time in the big house, I pray that he isn't forced to be roommates with declocoug.

LES is Jake's home away from home. So what's the big deal?.........

And it only took four pages for MARS to call someone a D-bag. You're losing your edge, MARS.

I agree with everyone else. This is a complete non-story. Even if he was fully aware that it was trespassing, he is only 18 years old. Cut him some slack. I love the fact that he wanted to spend time on the field. You can tell he is fully invested. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, so if there are no signs and the gates are wide open, he might have thought he was allowed to go in there--especially if he will be playing on that field. Either way, non-story.

I think I've posted this before, but when I was attending Michigan the most popular shirt at the Notre Dame games was a big yellow shirt with RUDY SUCKS on it. Other popular shirts were those substituting the letter F for the letter B in reference to Ohio St's mascot.

I don't understand how anybody can think Heaps made a mistake by "trespassing" in the stadium. The only mistake here is that the campus police didn't seize the moment and run routes on the field with the future of Cougar Football.

Don't you guys realize trespassing is a gateway crime?
