What about Ken Niumatalolo at Navy or Mike Leach? Just because there's so few LDS coaches they'd have to at least be on the list even if they didn't get an interview.

Who are the other LDS coaches currently out there?

Just being LDS on paper doesn't count, you have hold a temple recommend to be a head coach at BYU. And as far as I know Mike Leach is by no means active in the church.

He is a great coach... but what if he tried to bring the option to BYU? :bug:

I'm pretty sure the church is trying to pass a proposition saying that a BYU offense is defined as only between a QB and a WR.

The judge is a tailback, and he says that's unconstitutional.

The tailback has the same right to the ball that everyone else does - he just has to come out of the backfield and receive it like everyone else. I don't know where this hand off perversion came from, but it has to be stopped!

If you needed a new head coach immediately it would be Reynolds. He almost got the job over Bronco in the first place. I do think that Doman will be head coach in the future. Detmer needs to get some coaching under his belt so maybe he comes on as the quarterbacks coach. If Bronco lasts another five years I think Doman's the man, if we are replacing the head coach sooner then that then I don't think he will be ready. I also kind of think that Doman might end up as the OC in a couple seasons. Anae is going to get picked up by a BCS school one of these days thinking they have the next Norm Chow.

Detmer has the equivalent of 10 yrs NFL coaching experience. What do you think he was doing for the Lions and Browns all those years, playing QB?

As an NFL QB coach, head coaching is a whole different animal.

I suspect that Lance Reynolds would get the nod if Bronco were to leave in the next year or two. As Asst HC, he's paid his dues too.

A short list of those I would like to see coach include Doman, Detmer, Young, White, Reid just to name a few. Doman and Detmer need some time as offensive coordinator. Reid just needs to accept the call(ing). White and Young could step in and run the show IMO. Anae still needs to prove himself to me. Yes, he's put together some great offenses, but I still think he could mix things up better and get the Oline to impose its will on the defense better too. If he finally solves TCU this season to at least be competitive and can beat FSU, that would go a long way to showing me he's ready for the next step.

Elder Mendenhall. Just because he's a GA doesn't mean he can't be "called" to continue as the HC.

On the other hand ... Detmer would work too.

that was my thought too! If he quits "suddenly" he is called to serve a mission to Provo, UT as a special type mission president. :)

And the prophet starts issuing 4 year missions as "inspired" to prospective elders.

I think the GA assignment as Head Coach is more likely than mission president. It seems to work for school president, why not football coach.

I'm not sure if this is a rule or not, but let's say that he has to be LDS.

The rule is any head coach at BYU needs to be LDS, not just LDS but I believe temple recommend worthy LDS.

Hard to pass that interview with the first presidency if you are not.

I know there is an LDS coach at Louisiana State, who evidently came from Oregon and is an offensive juggernaut. I wonder if he's ever been a target for BYU?

Don't even go there!

Isn't Gary Sheide having some sucess coaching high school?

Doesn't Jamal Willis coach high school as well?

Paul Peterson, former Boston College QB and brother of Charlie Peterson, is coaching quarterbacks at SUU. I like the idea that he has some experience outside BYU (like Bronco). However, ...

I think one lesson learned from Crowton is that the coach needs to have some previous experience with the program. Peterson had a very short stint with BYU in 2006, but I don't think that is enough (for anyone, not just Paul).

I like Doman, but I think he needs to get some OC experience, and if he has to go somewhere else to get it (because Anae does not go anywhere), so be it.

But my vote goes to ..... Peck at Bingham High School.

Ok, maybe not the most qualified guy, but we know that he will run a clean program, and look what he has done at Bingham.
