A more seasoned Wash team that won 5 games last year? That won exactly zero games the year before? I'm sorry, I don't see us losing to that team even if we are a little green. It may be closer than some expect, but losing? I don't buy it.

Never underestimate an opponent. UW won 0 games 2 years ago because Locker went down the game after we played them in week 3. Yeah, they stunk that year, but a coaching change saw them improve immediately last year. Remember year 2 under Bronco? Just saying, expect UW to be much better than last year. If this game were in Seattle, I would be very nervous. Since it is in Provo, I like our chances.

One other thing. As I expected, I see alot of potential, but this team does not beat a more seasoned UW team. Sorry. Some of you arent going to like my prediction and understandably call me out and ask me to defend with real numbers and not hunches or one observed practice. FOrtunately there is more camp left. BUt alot of gelling offensively and defensively needs to happen. I have full faith in Bronco and the coaching staff, its awesome to see how well oiled the system is. Must contain running qb's as stated above or a long preseason.

That's quite the leap a week into camp where some starters are out, depth charts haven't been finalized, young guys are just learning our routinesm patterns, etc. and new plays are going in.

Yes, If we played tommorrow against UW AND UW had already played half a season then maybe you have a point, othwerwise you completely discount the fact that they're in the same fall camp as us, dealing with their depth chart and scouting their own guys.

You won't find a single team of world beaters on this planet a week into fall camp.

I think three of their losses were in losses in the last minute. a loss is a loss, but they are are a better five win team then most. they are also returning almost everybody that matters and been in another year with their new caoch. they will win at least 2-3 more games then they did last year i would think. that game is no gimmie for us. in fact i would say uw has the edge given our youth everywhere but the olin and secondary.

Say what you will, but I still think Washington is a top 50 team this year, not top 25 and we SHOULD win the game (I know should is a funny word because a lot of things don't happen that should, but I still think Washington is our fifth or sixth toughest game this year, maybe bumped up one spot because it's our first game).

I think Bronco is saying exactly what I am trying to point out. Compare this team to last year one week in. They were much farther ahead bc of the depth of experience, particularly at the key positions. Alot of upside to this team. It will be fun to watch the development and at times not fun bc like a team, a young team, it will be like shooting itself in the foot bc of inexperience and the need to gel as a team.

Kind of like Beck Soph year loss to NM. It was a turning point for the team. We'll have a similar turning point by mid of end of this year.

i have to agree with much of what dmcougar has said.

Washington are not world beaters, but they are an experienced team... MUCH more experienced that we are. They made tremendous improvement from '08 to '09, and I can only assume they will improve more going into this season... probably winning 2-3 games more, but certainly not seriously contending for the Pac-10 title.

This is one of those games where if we were to play it at the END of the season, I think an experienced offense lead by Jake Heaps beats Washington... with it being our first game of the season, and the team being so young, it's a tossup in my mind. Thank goodness this thing is in Provo.

Oh, and I think our defense will be the key to this game. If we make stops, Heaps/Nelson/whoever will be able to get us into the endzone enough times to win. But if this thing turns into an offensive shootout, I don't think our young offense will be able to keep up.

I have a really hard time imagining Washington winning 8 games this year. They play @ BYU and vs. Nebraska. Oregon, Stanford, Oregon State, USC. Arizona, Cal.

Keep that pic to compare to when he is a JR or SR. It will be real interesting to see the comparison.

what happens when a non-lds kid loses a year of eligibility, gets home sick, etc. etc. etc.

I have no idea what to think about the future of Drew Philips; stay tuned.

It will come down to turnovers. If Heaps can keep is interceptions to 2 or less, and our running backs and receivers don't fumble the ball away, BYU will win this game going away. If turnovers mount up, we could lose our opener. But I don't think this happens.

Yes, it's early, but I don't see Heaps thinking he's superman and has to win every game by throwing for 400 yards. If he can be a McIlroy (Alabama), and just play really smart his first few games, we could have a heck of a year. McIlroy did not lose any games by trying to do too much, and he won a NC as a freshman, not many guys can say that. If Heaps can not lose any games, then I think our OL, our receivers, and running backs will help him win games.

Yeah, not many guys can say they won a NC as a freshman---in fact, neither can Greg McElroy of Alabama. He was a Junior.

I will bring a little Washington perspective to the forum. This game, BYU versus Washington, is more than an opener for the Huskies. They have not won a road game for 3 years and this game has been circled, it has been talked about, it has been focused upon like no other. Jake Heaps is going to be a great QB, but the Quarterback edge has to go to the senior Jake Locker. Washington is loaded with excellent tailbacks and wide receivers so I give the offensive edge to the Dawgs. I give the entire defensive edge to the Cougars and they say defense wins games. Last year Washington couldn't top a parked car. The defense has improved but Coach Holt is starting a few true freshmen. How many games will Washington win this season? Around here its a real fruit salad, everything from 6-10. I will say this what Coach Sark has done it 2 years is nothing short of a miracle. Washington is back and they are good. BYU versus Washington? I want to see a competitive game decided in the 4th quarter.
