John Beck looked terrible with the Redskins last week, but his passer rating was still better than Alex Smith's with my Niners. Freakin' 9 rating. With the first-string offense. He's garbage.

IIRC, that's still more than Tommy Grady had against BSU in 2007 (or was it 2006?). I think he may have had a negative passer rating one game that year, too.

I watched some of Beck's performance with the Redskins. Tell me something - was the offensive line just TRYING to make him look bad? How many times did he get swarmed under with no time to react? He even had a lineman step on his foot twice. The line seemed to block just fine for running plays, and for the other quarterbacks. But when Beck was passing, it was "ole".

A lot of that has to do with Beck. He was only 9 or so days into his tenure with the Redskins, and in that short of time he apparently didn't get the protection schemes down. He might have been dropping too far or not far enough for the particular call, or rolling the wrong direction.

The getting stepped on is a familiarity thing as well. You learn from painful experience how to exit your center to get your feet out of his way as well as the guards.

I'm hoping this was just as new-guy thing, not a John Beck thing.
