Math class, anyone?

Boise State, anyone?

I would see our football schedule looking like this pretty much every year:

1. Utah

2. Utah St.

3. Fresno St/WAC opponent

4. Boise St.

5. Hawaii

6. Nevada/WAC opponent

7. Notre Dame

8. Navy

9. Army

10. TCU/Big 12 opponent

11. Cupcake/ D 1-AA

12. Pac 12

(we also could schedule a 7th home game I believe every other year if we play Hawaii each year.)

Just think about season tickets with that kind of schedule!

This schedule is not good enough for an independent to be considered for BCS games. BYU would need to be much more aggressive in scheduling than this. They will need to add Big 10 and Big 12 teams along with one or two east coast teams per year for exposure there. Going 7-4 with a tough schedule beats going 10-2 with cupcakes any time!

Do you realize that we would more than likely be playing 4 top 25 teams with that schedule (Utah, TCU/Big 12, Pac 12, and Boise St.) and 3 others that could be top 25 or fringe top 25 teams in Notre Dame, Navy, and/or Nevada and Fresno St.?

That schedule works because none of the bottom feeders would possibly be as bad as Wyoming, New Mexico, SDSU and UNLV.

Of course we'll still play some patsies. Look at what Boise State is doing this year. They're going to beat Virginia Tech and then pray that keeps them at the top the entire season. Not a terrible plan.

Must be an attorney that did the math - as 1+1 = Whatever you want it to be.

I am hoping more like

1)Utah

2)USU

3)BSU(WAC)

4)TCU (??)

5)Navy

6)AFA

7)random WAC team

8)random WAC team

9)PAC 12

10) BCS team (Big 12, ACC, etc)

11)MWC team

12)MWC team

Notre Dame will not happen annually. And no need to play 5 WAC teams, 4 is fine.

With an Independent schedule BYU could in reality play 7 or 8 homes games each year if they wanted to. I don't think they would have to play the top teams from BCS conferences but could play middle of the road teams from BCS conferences. I think that would be a pretty good schedule most years.

I would change your order around a little bit. But you have the right idea.

1.. Patsy team - lower D-1 or upper FCS

2. Fresno St/WAC opponent - Top 50 team

3. Utah - Top 15-25 team

4. Air Force - Top 25-35 team

5. Boise St. - Top 10 team

6. Nevada/WAC opponent - Top 35-50 team

7. Utah State - We usually play them the friday before LDS general conference (Priesthood session saturday) Top 85 team

8. Navy - Top 35-50 team

9. Army - Top 50-85 team

10. TCU/Big 12 opponent - Top 1-30 team

11. Hawaii - Top 50 team

12. Pac 12 - Top 1-50 team

That is a pretty strong schedule. Certainly better than the mountain west, and it would be hard to lose more than 3-4 games. Substitute big 12 with Notre Dame every other year, and that is a strong schedule that gets us a lot of exposure.

Why is everyone suggesting we play a Pac 12 team? Play a Big Ten, a Big XII, a ACC, a Big East, just not a PAC team, please!

I agree, the Pac-12 is reversible, because you are already playing pUkes. If you are already playing a big 12, don't play 2, maybe play a michigan or a michigan state. That would be awesome!

BYU should look to play Big Ten, Big East, or ACC in a cool neutral venue, like Yankee Stadium or an NFL stadium somewhere (Indianapolis, Atlanta, Dallas, etc.)....

I would love a chance to go out to Indy and watch the Cougs on Saturday and the Colts on Sunday. Could that work?

Just thought I bring this thread from weeks ago back up and show you all how silly you look when you jump the gun. Wait for a real source to confirm.
