We look very bad to talk about being so sanctimonious with our actions, when in reality we have been unethical in our ways of achieving greater exposure and more money.

Shame on BYU and shame on us for justifying their actions.

What part of the dealings have been dishonest? Where did BYU lie? Keep in mind BYU hasn't said a word about it yet. There is a difference between being dishonest and playing your cards close to your chest.

Troll. Shame on you. How dare you call out BYU for acting responsibly, doing their due diligence properly and acting in a fiscally responsible manner to better the interests of BYU, and the Church in the process. Conference alignment works when it is beneficial to all. When it is not, you leave. BYU is examining those options now.

You clearly do not understand AT ALL what BYU is doing. Not at all. Let me try to explain big picture to you.

If BYU wants to remain relevant in the current economic climate, and compete at the highest level, they have to leave the MWC. Period. Only way to stay in touch with the big boys financially is to carve out your own deals or hope for inclusion in a big boy league, because the MWC deal KILLS BYU. At $1.4M per year, that is a pittance compared to the PAC-12, Big 12, SEC, etc. BYU's rival just got a PAC-12 invite and looks to make $15M per in 3-4 years in perpetuity, and BYU needs more $$$ to compete with that. Utah having an extra $13M+ per year in this market matters, BYU knows it and BYU is responding to improve their own position. If you fail to see that, you do not understand college athletics at all. BYU flying solo is to generate more $$$ to stay competitive nationally and locally and the BCS has zero do with this. CFB finances have changed, and TV money is driving the changes, not the BCS. BCS is small potatoes, maybe $1M year more for BYU each year after split 12 ways should the MWC get an invite. BYU can make way more than that on its own, and it really is that simple. And since the Church views BYU Athletics as an asset in promoting its mission and message, the Church needs to position BYU better. How do you do that without raising BYU's profile, and increasing revenues to better promote? You do not. So BYU has to leave the MWC in order to increase overall athletic revenues in order to compete financially in the new world of college athletics, create new business partners who will elevate the profile of BYU, such as ESPN, and raise the profile in a positive manner of the LDS Church in the process.

Again, you brought up no ways in which the church and BYU have eggs on their face, just rehashed your tripe. Basically, you are acting like a troll, not a BYU fan.

Well that veil was pretty thick for the average troll. How many posts have you made before you just couldnt resist? Congrats.

Couldnt defend your point under scrutiny and so your veneer melted away to expose the troll you are. Honestly, sounds more like a Yewt fan. But I'm figuring out why BSU fans are so hated as well.

YOU'RE SUCH A TROOOLLLLLLLLL!!!!

Man, this guy is pathetic. You know he's probably a member but a Boise State fan and he hates everything BYU anyway. Of COURSE he'd say stuff like this.

Backroom dealings, indeed. What is this; Congress? It's called business, dude. Our team has gotten screwed by it's deal with the Mountain and the MWC and it's TOUGH BEANS that us leaving would essentially kill the MWC. You don't stay in a conference that underpaid you and underappreciated in the first place out of LOYALTY. Have you never quit a job before because another job offer came your way that your current job refused to or was unable to match? It's the cycle of business. You benefit from each other until you can find more benefit elsewhere. If the MWC is would be so upset about BYU leaving it is because they are RIDING on BYU to be relevant. If that's the case than BYU deserves more from them than they're getting and if the MWC won't offer that and BYU can get more elsewhere then DUH!!

I understand you're upset as a Boise State fan that the conference you were aspiring to join for the last three years has suddenly evaporated, but you can't blame Utah for doing what was best for them and you can't blame BYU either.

You are a Boise State Donkey TROLL if I've EVER seen one. Get lost.

It didn't even make sportscenter this morning. The only people that seem to care are the others in the conference.

Missouri and Kansas were pissed at Texas too, but relieved when they stayed.

No BYU, no future AQ for the MWC; they all know that. They still need BYU more than we need them, the issue is that we dont' have a nice soft landing for our hoops and other sports teams.

They've obviously spent months brokering this WAC/ESPN deal and now the WAC is considering adding Montana and Cal-Poly.

BYU just needs to get a few concessions out of the MWC (broadcasting, etc.) and bide their time til the Big 12 comes a calling.

I disagree. Shady backroom dealings doesnt seem to be in the mission of BYU. It seems that somehow that mission has been lost. BYU has been less than above board with all of this, and obviously are in a tough position.

We're only getting "ripped" by idiots. What everyone who isn't emotionally invested in this process call confidential negotiations that are being used to maximise uor brand value those who already hated us call "shady backroom dealings" There is nothing wrong with negotiating things privately, All BYU did was consider going independat. The MWC didn't want to give any concessions, BYU didn't go out and whine about it, it just went about finding a willing partner. BYU figured that the MWC considered us a hostage, and tryed to protect it's next step. Nothing wrong with that. Again, those who already hated BYU just have ANOTHER thing to hate them about. Those without a dog in the fight say "Good for BYU."

Dumb thread of the decade award. No articles to back up your claim, no explanation on how anything BYU has done is "shady," just lame rhetoric and repeating the same one-liners over and over again.

As an actual PR professional, in my expert opinion, BYU doesn't have anything to worry about. In fact, from a PR perspective this is golden. We now have everyone talking about us and it really isn't bad attention. I do believe there is such a thing as bad press, but I don't think this is it.

People are speculating. Let them speculate, let them form their own conclusions (they do it anyways). Why does BYU have to justify it's actions? It's done nothing wrong. If we get up and try to put out some stupid statement "explaining" our actions we look weak. Why did we do it: because we wanted to!

Every football team has side conversations with other conferences. Every football team tries to do what is best for their team and fans. BYU has behaved no differently. No football team thinks, well if I work out a deal that's better for my fans that's really going to piss off the fans of our competitors.

Why should we have to explain, when others don't? Because we have more "integrity"? That line of thought - that we live a higher standard so therefore have to explain our actions more - is exactly why the general populatin thinks Mormons are stuck up.
