That's cute. So Washington and Army were once the mostest-specialist schools ever back around WWII? Super.

Meanwhile, we were talking about national appeal, college football relevance, and fanbase. Would ESPN offer UW an independent deal as big as BYU? No. Could Washington even go indy if they wanted to? Doubt it.

Face it, you're no BYU. But it is funny to read about how far you've fallen.

1991 and 1960 are the two I think we won outright, the others mentioned are debatable at best. (By the way, I personally have nothing to do with the Wiki page).

LOL Mars... laughable my friend, really funny stuff. BYU is a mid major with a bunch of mormon fans, and thats fine, but that does not make you have "national appeal"... thats just too funny. Nobody who isn't a mormon cares about BYU, thats not me trying to be mean or anything, that is just a fact.

For the guy talking down about our bowl history:

Bowl games

The Washington Huskies have a long history and tradition of playing in the Rose Bowl.

The Huskies' 14 Rose Bowl appearances are second only to USC in the Pac-10 and third overall (behind USC with 30 and the Michigan Wolverines with 19). The Huskies' seven victories are also third behind USC (21) and Michigan (8). In addition, Washington is also in an elite group of only six schools to make back-to-back-to-back appearances in the Rose Bowl, a feat they accomplished in 1990-1992. The other schools are Ohio State and Michigan from the Big 10 and California, Stanford and USC from the Pac-10. Washington has won at least one Rose Bowl game in every decade since the 1960s.

So "no one" cares about mid-major BYU, but we still have way more national appeal than the big, bad PAC-10 bottom-dweller Washington?

What a sad waste UW has become, if you can't even compare to little old us anymore. It's like 1984 and '85 have become the permanent story of your life- looking up to BYU.

Since 1984?

We have four Rose Bowls, an Orange Bowl, a National Championship (two if you are one of the peeps who count 1990, I'm not), and a bunch of mid to lower tier bowl games to sprinkle on top... so not sure your comment holds any weight buddy ;)

P.S. since you all seem to be so high on "awards"... we also have the Doak Walker, Outland and Lombardi award trophies since then as well. And the Dawg Father won the Bear Bryant coaching award in 1991.

I guess you could call me the "guy talking down your bowl games"...or more accurately, you the guy "talking up" your bowl games. You lose half of your bowl games, and half of your big bowl games. You are the one who said that you USUALLY go big and win. How do you get "coin flip" to mean "usually" ? Don't you guys speak English up there?

You are right it was a poor choice of words, we do have a .500 record in our 30 bowl games.

Sounds about the same to me then. How about, "hey you have a good team...hey we have a good team." No need to drop trou and reach for the ruler.

Also, Tulane is great. San Jose State is great. Rice is great. Idaho is great. All of their fans would tell us so as well.

Meanwhile, back in reality, great teams win more games than they lose. Great teams go to a bowl game. Great teams finish ranked. Great teams don't hire Ty Willingham and recruit purse-stealers.

BYU laughs at Washington.

At least Huskies have sweet spirits.

I didn't say Washington has been the more successful football team the last five years, the people I responded to said Washington's history and tradition is "tiny" compared to BYU, which is ludicrous and nobody outside of Utah would agree with you guys. Since when did "football tradition and history" get defined as the last five years? You can't argue both ways guys, it's a non-starter.

BYU has a good history, but it is just not on the same level as Udub, to say otherwise is pure homerism on the part of BYU fans. And the fact that guy said we have no NC and no individual award winners just proves my comment that he is clueless and ignorant on football outside the mid majors, and that is not name calling, it's a fact since he could easily Google Udub and find out we have more than one NC, more than one award winner, and a very long and storied history and tradition of football success going back over a hundred years.

The last five years have been the exception, not the rule. Only USC has a better football tradition than Udub in the PAC10, with UCLA arguably being tied with Washington in some categories.

And you want to make fun of no bowls since 2001? Well we went to the Rose Bowl, and WON it, no Las Vegas potato chip bowls for us, but when we go bowling we usually go big, and win.

BYU has been better the last five years, but they are not even on the same planet as Washington when it comes to achievements and success for the program overall.

Purple, you really ought to read what is said before spouting off about your glorious Dawgs. It would help your credibility. And you ought not overstate--Saying that UW wins most of its bowls games when its record is 15-15 is an overstatement. In any event, I am "the guy," not based in Utah by the way, who mentioned BYU's Heisman, Doak and Outland winners and ASKED about UW's winners. I said you could "educate" me on it. I did NOT say you did not have similar players. Go back and read my post again and see for yourself. I followed up your link and do see you have had an Outland, coach of the year, and Doak winner too. Good on you. The Heisman might still come some day. My point is that BYU's history and tradition is not less than UW's in my book. We can agreed to disagree. You guys have some great accomplishments and I will not denigrate, but you talk of homerism and quite frankly for a fan to shout from the roof tops about a program in taters (perhaps emerging from its failures) is homerism in its own right.

Both programs have a proud tradition and history, I just greatly disagree with those who lump Udub in with the SDSU's of the world, that's just not right.

Some fans in college football only pay attention to old history and ignore their team's current lack of success (Washington, UNLV basketball, etc.)

Some fans in college football only pay attention to newer history and ignore their team's lack of past success ( :utard:)

Which is more important? Rich tradition and past success - or being relevant in the present? Guess it depends which fanbase you're talking to...

Clearly nobody here is comparing UW with SDSU.

Looking at the Wikis for both BYU and UW football, it would seem that we have more in common than a member of the PAC-10 would like to admit. There is no shame in national championships, conference championships, prestigious California-based bowl games, Doaks, Outlands, CotY, and Heisman winners. BYU has them. UW has them. I think much of this is sour grapes from last year.
