If BYU stays, who to add?

USU got offered because the MWC thought it was about to lose the state of Utah, and I am sure Comcast would have a HUGE issue with that. So if BYU jumps, USU gets an offer 100% guaranteed. Comcast and the MTN needs a reason to put that channel on Utah basic cable. Without that, the Network deal folds. So USU really is dependent on BYU leaving to get an invite.

If BYU stays it will be Houston. Houston already said no BYU=no reason to accept the invite. They are not desperate like FSU and Nevada, and see C-USA as a viable option. THe MWC would like another Texas presence, and I am sure TCU would not mind an in state conference game, to go with their SMU rivalry game.

I had to go with Utah State. Of course they bring a rotten program into the MWC. But I think there is value to loyalty. They had our back when first asked to bolt the WAC. That's gotta mean something. In reality, it's gotta mean more than power, glory, recognition, or ranking. If not, our heads are not screwed on right and I fear we worship the god of football more than the example of Christ.

The best answer is to not stay in the MWC. Then the question is moot.

I have to agree. I think Houston brings the most to the conf but just for the reason of USU being resolute throughout this process (face it they had the most to win by jumping conferences and instead may end up with the shaft). I like to reward loyalty over just dollars. In the long run you usually come out ahead anyways. In BBall they would be the best add outside of Gonzaga joining as Bball only - hmmm an interesting thought - could we have a bball only side to the conf too? (Big East of the West) Creighton, Gonzaga, St Mary's, Oral Roberts ...

Or how about this. . . We go to the WCC and indy in football. Utah State follow us to the WCC. I mean, the WCC doesn't have football but then neither do the Aggies!!

It's the MWC's decision of who to invite, not BYU's. BYU didn't even have a say in bringing UNR and Fresno, so let's be a little careful before we start calling BYU board of trustees (aka, the Apostles) idolatrous worshipers of false gods.

The conference as an entity has no interest in following the example of Christ.

Whoa! Sorry, Hoss. What I meant by "we" are us loyal faithful Cougar Corner family members. I would never insinuate that our Apostles are "Idolatrous worshipers of false gods." Rather than do so, I would that my post might be stricken forever from the annals of Cornerdom.

I don't think this has been brought up before, but what if the by-laws of the MWC are changed to allow schools to be independent in football but play all other sports in conference. BYU goes independent for football. There are 11 schools in the league. 10 who play football and 11 who play basketball which causes a problem. So...invite Hawaii as an independent in football (which it sounds like the direction they are heading) with their other sports played in conference. You now have an even number of teams for all sports.

Houston is by far the best option --- huge market potential, nice history from the 1970s and 1980s, recruiting, Comcast cable, best potential BCS buster of candidates, exciting offense, institutional commitment, etc.

Utah State, while improving, is like adding another SDSU or UNLV.....helps basketball and drags the conference down for football.

This has potential. It would also work in the WCC. Add BYU and Hawaii for basketball and other sports, both go independent in football....
