It's all about the $$$. Notre Dame still makes more than most other teams even when they lose. BYU could go 6-5 every year and still make more money than they were in the MWC under the reign of Hair Thompson. If BYU goes to a BCS game once every 12 years they will collect more money in the 1 BCS game than they would have with the entire mtn contract over the same 12 years....and that's not even counting all the loot the Cougs will get from ESPN during the regular season.

And fans really care about the $$$?! Fans care about winning and going to big bowl games. Maybe a smart move for the money but I have a feeling not necessarily a smart move for the fans. How much fun will BYU football be those other 11 years?

BYU football will be loads of fun every year. The sky is the limit. For sure there will be ups and downs but the best part is that fans everywhere will be able to enjoy the ride on national TV with basic cable......or dish.....or directv.......or following the team to away games in South Bend or Annapolis.....and not to games in Laramie.

Don't take the bait. BCS powers would love to goad us inot playing tough opponents every week - cuz that will keep us and for that matter, anyone, out of BCS Bowls. The elite programs do not play tough games every week and they minimize road games and travel distances.

I hope we have a very difficult time geteting powerhouse teams scheduled. 2 or 3 big games a year - 4 at most - half at home - then we need a middle and a bottom to our schedule like the other elite programs.

So work miss state, and Vandy, and Baylor, and Iowa State, and Duke, and Indiana, and Purdue in there with lots of WAC and MWC bottom and we will have a tougher schedule than we had, but one that we stand a chance of good success with.

And that might get us more 10+ win seasons. You want a BCS bowl - even this schedule is too tough. Our previoius schedule was too touogh.

Go Cougs get a balanced schedule and thrive in this brave new world.

I do think the other MWC members should blow up the MWC and the WAC and swap a little with the Conf USA and start a decent conference with a decent TV contract. That might be so cool that BYU might want to join it.

The MWC should have just 8 teams in 2011, with FSU/UNR still stuck in the WAC. That makes only 7 conference games. Every school will need 5 OOC games, one more than they planned on for the season...

It's nice that you've come like a tiny black rain cloud to try and ruin our parade, but I, as a fan, am super excited at the idea of playing more BCS teams every year and at the potential recruits, facilities, and national prominence we can gain with more exposure and money. Fans aren't only concerned about winning and going to bowl games, that's why ND has more fans than Donkey St. True fans care about a teams tradition as well, which BYU has built on the shoulders of Lavell. Oh, also, winning 10-11 games a year is pretty good, especially when playing more than one tough game a year.

I don't think it will be as hard to find team in my opinion. My reason being that now that we're not part of the MWC, people wouldn't mind scheduling us. When these BCS team play a team like BYU from the "lowly" Mtn. West, it's a lose lose situation in most cases. Because if they come in a beat a team like byu, well they were supposed to, and if they lose to a team like BYU from the MWC then their team must suck, and while some people don't see it like this, there's many that do because it's obvious to me that they just don't have any common sense.

I agree with what my son says above. We do lose the stigma of being in a non AQ conference. We're something differennt. The key for me is if we can now schedule BCS teams into LES without them all being 2 fers. That will tell me more than anything. The dust isn't going to settle fast on this move unless something Big 12 like comes along, which is so pie in the sky I'm not holding my breath.

Go ask ND fans how fun watching football has been the past ten years.

BYU, 32 wins over the past 3 years. Notre Dame, 16.

Go ask Idaho fans what academics are.

Go ask Utah fans about playing a PAC-12 schedule. Think they will care initially about the chance to lose more games in conference on the road now? Hell no. The sky is the limit now, and every year will not be a BCS year. But the good years will be better and the down years probably 8-4, but you lose to better teams, which makes it better too. And the BCS won't be around forever anyway. A playoff is coming, and just gotta be top 16 when it does. BYU can do that.
