bpleweI would not be surprised if we (ESPN) were able to work out a ND-lite sort of deal, as follows:
Auto-bid for top 4 (or 5 or 6, not 8)
$4.5M for playing a BCS game
nothing otherwise
ND "deserves" the annual money because they have been part of the BCS from day one; did not have to earn or demand or buy their way in.
Why do all the talking heads out there still think we expect to be treated just like ND? I think we are perfectly well aware of who we are and where we rank (and ought to rank) in the football hierarchy. At least, as opposed to BSU, TCU, Utah (and the PAC-12), we realize that the value of an athletic program is only partially determined by winning %.
$ value of 10-win BYU = 13-win BSU/UofU/TCU = 8-win Florida/Texas/Oklahoma = 6-win ND
So what is the $ value of a 7-win BYU if we get a much tougher schedule before we're ready?
