did anyone see Chambers awesome falling-backwards one-handed catch? It was out of bounds, but still very impressive.

That was a sweet catch. Too bad he was a half yard out of bounds, because it was nice.

Wow, look at everybody jumping the gun and selling out certain players. It's the first game of the season, everybody made some mistakes and tightened things up in the second half. I have lost some confidence in our fan base if they're this quick to throw players under the proverbial bus.

Matter of fact, I'm sick of a half dozen people on this forum that can't say a single nice thing. After the entire summer of speculation and worry, we just put to bed our first opponent and shut down their Heisman trophy winner. We didn't commit a single turnover and our true frosh QB didn't make a single fatal mistake against a Pac-10 opponent. A pac-10 opponent that beat USC last year.

We played 16 players to my count that had never taken a major college snap and we still won.

I'm starting to believe that some people just aren't happy unless they're not happy. (I can't wait to see all the experts come out when we actually lose a game... save your breath, it's about the future, this team has an incredible future and we might just have a chance to carve out a nice present and still preserve that future by getting our young guys the experience that they need.)

If there are people out there that aren't excited about this year's team then they never will be. I've never been more excited to be a cougar fan. With that being said I don't see anything wrong with analyzing the game and giving your opinion where you think we can improve. That's natural. The excitement and enjoyment of the team should be first though.

The QB play was as good as I hoped for game 1 and exceeded my expectations. The RB play met my expectations which were not sky high. In the 2nd half they exceeded them - Jj, Riley mainly.

The OL is absolutely incredible. The tight ends met my expectations which were not sky high. We need a fullback to step up. The wide receivers did not meet my expectations and especially Jacobsen who I expected to be nearly Austin Collie like this year. I still believe he will have a good year. I saw about what I expected from Chambers. I cringed when he hesitated but still brought that kickoff out of the endzone late. But then he made it to the 30 and did not fumble. I was pleasantly surprised when he let the deep punt go over his head instead of trying something foolish.

The defense, helped by UW offense and special team mistakes, exceeded my expectations as in last year bs Oklahoma. Let's hope it is real. We will know in two weeks. Kickoffs and field goals were fine. Punting was phenomenal. Overall, I expected an embarrassing loss. Expectatios greatly exceeded and raised for the future. The team showed potential for greatness and will improve if they stay healthy.

I'm extremely excited about this year's team. Some great players, and I very much like the team-first attitude. I liked how multiple receivers got catches and were thrown to. Much prefer throwing to the open player as opposed to forcing a pass to the star players.

It's only the first game, so time will tell. Chambers has shown a propensity to lose the ball in the past and unfortunately he did it again yesterday. I couldn't help but be disappointed too. It's natural to expect the Juniors to step it up and lead the team.

I'm still mad at Wilson about the dropped touchdown pass. Would've been nice for Heaps to get a passing TD, and it would've also given us a comfortable cushion on our lead for the rest of the game.

It was a poor throw. The ball was not even catchable really. Reminded me of the bad throw Max made in the same spot in the end zone in the Utah game last year. That one was all on Jake.

When I watched that on tape, my opinion did not change. It was catchable, though difficult. I think we are used to Pitta catching just about anything thrown his way.

Chambers, gottta love that kid. I wish hed stop talking trash and focus on holding the ball. He brings alot of energy and ability. He gets better by game 2, I believe.

He put too much zip on it and it was a little outside, but it still should have been caught IMO.

The announcers also said that Wilson - as a starting receiver - needs to be able to catch that sort of ball.

But that's just me pointing out my frustrating with the fact that we're still seeing dropped passes. Thankfully it didn't cost us a victory, and our receivers/TE's have another week to improve.

A lot of people in this thread complaining about people complaining. Not a lot of talk about the tight ends. Waste of time.

And no, Mahina didn't play. He should get his first snaps against Air Force. I look forward to him and Holt getting their first catches (although Mathews should continue to start on passing downs, Wilson should continue to start in the blue-zone, and Meuhlmann should continue to start on blocking downs).

Let the record show, Chambers only fumbled once. During, the second "fumble" on the punt return, the replay clearly showed that not only was the ball grounded before he lost control but so was his knee. The Chambers haters just seem to revel in any chance to pile on the kid. He has made many a clutch play for BYU and not once yet has been the single reason for a loss though it could be argued he was the single reason we won the Yewtah game last year.

Yes, he occasionally makes a questionable decision and sometimes I hold my breath when he's waiting on a punt, but the fact of the matter is, that as yet, none of his mistakes have affected the W/L column and on more the one occasion he has contributed to the sealing of a W for the Cougars.

But nothing I say is going to convince any of the haters. They've clearly made up their mind about certain players from their first impressions of them and refuse to accept new evidence that contradicts their negative view. Just look at the flack that players like Justin Robinson and Mitch Payne took their whole career.

As for the drops, Jake certainly seemed to be the victim of the case of the "dropsies" the receivers were suffering from on Saturday, though Riley had one or two that should have been caught as well.

This is D1, if you can get two hands to touch the ball, you should catch it. I'm not going to throw players under the bus or hate on them for not making the play but I will call them as I see them. Wilson should have had that TD reception. There's no excuse for Jacobson not catching that perfectly placed ball from Heaps down the sideline. Mathews dropped a ball from Jake too as I recall. Ashworth dropped two catchable balls, one from each QB as I remember, though I don't blame him as much because he was hung out to dry on a couple occasions by his QBs setting him up for a nasty hit. DiLuigi dropped a pitch from Riley that would have gone for a first down. Oh and Chambers didn't drop a single catchable ball.

Regardless of who dropped what and from whom, it has got to stop. I've never seen so many quality passes dropped in such a short period of time (fall camp and first game), especially by such experienced receivers. The score in the UW game could have been much higher. We'll definitely need to clean that up before we play the likes of FSU, TCU and Yewtah. We have to make the most of every opportunity we get in those games.

AMEN!!!!!

What the heck is wrong with some of you??? It was the first game, and we're already seeing people turn on players...

Nope, I was talking this way about Chambers before the season started in 2009. He didn't prove me wrong against OU or FSU that's for sure. The guy is a fumble bum and a liability. He is the football version of a lesser JT...iow, makes the spectacular play once or twice per game but two or three terrible mistakes as well, and in football a fumble has no basketball equivalent. If he held onto the ball I wouldn't say a thing but come on.

I was impressed with Chambers on a couple of punts in the fact that he didn't try and catch it. There was the touchback that he let bounce into the end zone, and there was another punt towards the sideline that he just let go rather than trying to make a tough catch.
