The hit looked like a direct hit on his left knee. When they helped him off the field he was favoring his right knee.

Not that it matters but which one is injured?

I'm pretty sure it's his right knee. In the video he takes the hit on the left knee but it's his right knee that is firmly planted at the time of impact. So it's his right knee that buckles.

Right. I just watched it again. It looks like his right knee sort of hyperextends pretty bad.

What say a few of us pay him a little visit?

The dude is a coward...he'll go back and hide in Reno, which is actually a pretty easy thing to do

You're right. It's easy to hide in a hole.

Let me know how that goes for you.

On a different note, the block seems to have come more from the side than from behind. Can someone explain to me the clipping rule? Is a hit to the knee like this from the side perhaps more legal than one from behind? I'm not questioning the badness of this particular block, just wondering why the refs didn't call anything.

As far as blocking goes, the general rule is if you can see his name (back of his jersey), you shouldn't touch him. A block below the waist is only legal if you are blocking straight on to the defender, and if you start the block under the waist, and finish under the waist. That is called a cut block, and there are a few rules that apply to that particular play. A cut block is legal, but kind of underhanded, as it kills the knees. It is the same thing as running under someone when they are going for a layup in basketball. You just plain don't do that, not in high school, and especially not in college.

That was not a legal block, especially when the Olineman rolls through it. He could have waited for Fuga to turn around (following the runner) and just laid him out. That would have been legal, and a better play.
