Whatever Bronco does a few wins and a bcs game or 2 over the next few years would be nice. I don't care if that can be achieved in 1 minute or 24 hours a day. Having priorities straight doesn't mean you accept that others will outperform you because they're willing to spend time and resources that you wont part with. BYU's approach to coaching, practice and whatever else can be unique....but lets just turn this ship around and do what other schools around us seem to be able to do -- get to a bcs game and win it.

Lots of other coaches make more than Bronco, but I wonder if you calculated $$$ per hour if he's still underpaid. Also, unless he's being offered jobs right now for >$1,000,000/yr he's not underpaid since really your value is whatever somebody is willing to pay you at the time.

Doh! I was thinking in 2020 which is 10 years away.

Bronco is a fanatastic Coach for BYU and he probably is tired. I would be if I were in his position. He has his priorities where they should be. This is part of what makes him and BYU unique.I keep saying they may continue to get pounded for now but when all is said and done this will end up being a fantastic team. A win Friday would certainly be a step in the right direction. Besides who would be a better head coach at BYU? I would love to hear some ideas.

Bronco, as someone above seemed to allude, is tired of unappreciative fans who do not support the program. My supposed overreaction, was not to a single post, but to a theme of posts referring to priorities, work ethic, bad decisions, poor judgment, laise faire style, poor media presence, failure to adjust, poor handling of talent, favoritism or bias to unheralded and experienced players and overpaid.

SMU or some other program that wants a coach that can turn a program around quickly and has proven that would pay Bronco $2m in a heartbeat. If Bronco gets too tired and still wants to coach he would only need to signal his interest. And he proved he could do it without cheating or recruiting criminals. Crowton may make as much as Bronco.

Re practicing more

Hey we could start practicing on Sundays. TIC.

Riley Nelson injured his shoulder initially at practice during non-contact drills. A key player a year ago injured himself in pre-game warmups. More practice time risks of injury, fatigue, or burnout must be weighed vs benefits.

I don't believe the team needs more practice unless it is full contact drills allowing sacks and hard hits. Think of this as OJT. This is what the team needs - more game reps because we can't risk injury in full contact drills.

Jake Heaps knows where to throw and consistently and accurately makes the throws in practice. This is not a timing issue - it is a doing it with chaos and confusion all around while hearing footsteps in the heat of battle issue. Be patient. Experience takes time.

Yeah, but this is actually harder on Bronco because has coached some good seasons as well.

The question I think is, does BYU need to practice more?

The obvious answer, I think, is yes.

Exactly. The point wasn't "BYU football would be better if the players became atheists, quit going to church, no longer believe in God, cut off all ties to their families, punched their best friend in the stomach, and stopped doing homework and going to class". Come on.

The point was, "Maybe practicing fewer hours than is available is a poor idea with a young team that isn't executing very well with each other within the given system". Ding ding ding. Makes sense to me.

Oh, let's not fix the problem though (or talk about it), let's fire Bronco (or talk about it). Stupid people. Just extend practice by a small amount until things begin clicking better.

Oh, ouch, ya got me! I'll have you know that my teams have made the playoffs every year, and no, not everyone makes them (not to mention a college team playing in a national championship 8) ). Seriously though, bad seasons weigh on you, you have so much on your mind, did I make the right call? Did I play the right player? What can I do differently this week? How can I motivate my players? Where are the real weak points? On and on, it's like a whole CC forum floating around in your head and it really can wear on you mentally.

That would definitely wear on a person mentally!

You'd be in a warehouse, wondering where you were.

Yeah, it's pretty much like being trapped inside one of the contestants on The Biggest Loser. :bug:

I have to admit that I like the way Bronco is preaching weekly improvement, rather than results. He is trying to build a young team from the bottom up. We will see the result of that in a season or two. But for now, it is painful, because we all still want results and and scrutinizing why they are not happening--just as Bronco is I am sure.

Can you imagine a job where you perform once a week for several months, and in between performances, people (the media) ask you incessantly the same 5 or 6 questions with the same underlying theme of "Why do you suck?"

mantras, philosophies, and priorities aside, that would be extremely draining.

Agree and disagree. Crowton was very good at preaching weekly improvement. "We're just such a young and inexperienced team, but I see progress each week. We're working really hard to get better."

While I agree that we do need to be patient, there have been many coaches who have preached "weekly improvement, rather than results." Although I do think Bronco is a much better head coach than Crowton and I don't think we'll have to wait until next year or the year after or the year after that before we start seeing results.

We're about to enter our easiest stretch of games. We should be able to win five our next six, so I think we're going to start seeing both improvement and results.

I agree. With Crowton, it was a slow slide the wrong way, and the improvement was really never seen, regardless of what he said. With Bronco, he has already shown he can do it, just need to again with this group. I think it starts Friday night.

I for one absolutely love that football is 5th, and if it ever becomes 1st then BYU is just any other football program.

Where have I been? BYU football is 5th? I thought they were currently ranked somewhere in the 60's, way to go BYU!!

I think the title of this thread is appropriate but you needed to finish the rest of it so here goes. Bronco is Tired of BYU "FANS" thinking he took a whole case of stupid pills after last season and the beginning of this season and isn't a very good coach. Perhaps that title was too long to fit in the box.

I say we give this thread a rest!!
