I agree, but at the same time I am not convinced that BYU has what it takes to beat USU, especially after three losses by their team.
Bingo. BYU will have to really pull together to win this game. We have lots of talent - with lots of injuries - and lots of youth. We need to raise the bar & execute on both sides of the ball. We will be stretched & pushed. Even w/ Max Hall & Pitta USU made us work.
So what is USU ranked again? I know they are not top 15 but I can't seem to find them on any top 25 lists either. At least from several posts it sounds like they should be and not the team that just gave up 41 points in each of their last games. BTW, I'm not sure if many noticed, but we held one of the top O's in the country to only 3 points in the second half. You know that same O that absolutely destroyed Cal. BYU has played some good teams and we lost to them. Don't confuse USU with any of the three we just played. If you want to bring up the OK game realize it was 21-0 in the 2nd when OK put it on cruise (sound familiar?) and then had to wake back up to make sure there wasn't an upset.
I understand you can't take any team lightly, but people are making it sound like we must have a near flawless or perfect game to beat USU. This is the team that has won less games in the last four seasons than we won last season. Their only win this year is against ISU who got hammered by N. Col and N AZ.
So what I am trying to say is lets try to keep things in perspective. Yes we need to improve, yes we can't take people lightly, and yes we need to execute to win games, but this feeling that we are going to lose to USU is just silly. It is based mostly on our three losses (the last loss was evidence that we are close to getting it going), and USU lulling OK to sleep by dropping down 21pts then making a spirited comeback a la vs BYU a couple of years ago (the infamous - "overated" game). I see this as akin to those that didn't go to the Nv game because they were chalking it up as a loss. A couple of timing issues resolved earlier and we could very well have won that game. So again, don't be like Mudville, let there still be joy in Provo because I for one did see the effort and the missed opportunities due to lack of repetition that will be ironed out soon enough. And if not all of them, at least enough of them to ensure victory tonight.
GO COUGARS!!!!!
