tipoff 1sthand?

I'd love to hear from anyone that went.



What I'm excited to confirm from the news articles is 1. that Abouo is much improved and now using his athleticism to cause trouble and making his shots 2. Martineau is a solid backup point, capable of scoring and distributing (i.e. better than Ben Murdock)... next year will not be "pointless" 3. Chris Collinsworth and Stephen Rogers give us a deeper bench than last year 4. James Anderson doesn't suck

- Abouo looked very much in control. He'll play a lot of minutes and could be 3rd scoring option.



- Martineau looked solid and I would definitely agree on the better than Murdock assessment. Which is good, because BYU made Murdock into a serviceable MWC PG.



- Chris C. was sporting an Aussie mullet it looked like. He did gain weight, but it wasn't in his gut or legs. He looked stronger and still hustled. Getting stabbed did wonders for Paul Kruger, maybe it'll do the same for him.



- Anderson looked a little better. I think we can get the same production from him that we got from Miles, namely 5 points and 4 rebounds.



- We have a lot of 2s and 3s on this team. We don't have much size and the size we do is going to be in foul trouble a lot.



- Davies looked ok.



- I can't believe we could be looking at three Provo High players seeing significant minutes.



- Kyle Collinsworth was decent. Didn't notice him much.



- Rogers made his first shot and then pretty much disappeared.



- Jimmer was Jimmer. There'll be no stopping him. The hate for him from MWC fans is going to reach epic levels.



- Jackson will be what he was last year. A great defender who is a semi-consistent shooter.

Rogers did disappear because he banged his knee early on and Rose decided to keep him out for the rest of the scrimmage.

I'm glad that Abouo is starting to take real command at the 3. I see so much potential with his athleticism and footwork, it's nice to see him confidently use it now. He's such a difference maker on defense, that his offense is just icing.



I think there's no ignoring Martineaus numbers and of the little video I saw from the tipoff, he looks quick enough to command the backup point this year (thus allowing a redshirt for Winder) Murdock was a solid point, with simply no scoring punch and it looks to me like Martineau has a punch and can handle the ball and play defense as well as Murdock. (with Jimmer and Jackson graduating and KC going on his mission after the year, I like the idea of martineau holding down the fort until Jordan Chatman matures as a point and then Winder gets to be what he realy is, a hybrid 2 that has some handles). I didn't particularly like that idea before this week because I didn't know if Nick could give us enough.



I'm glad to hear that CC and Rogers are capable and strong. They'll both be asked to help rebound out of the zone defense i expect us to employ against bigger teams.



If there was a team that lacked ideal size and could still be successful, it's one that runs, finishes and shoots and we can do that; however you're right, Davies and Anderson are foul machines; I hope Noah gets well real quick and that CC can give us 15 minutes a game of solid play at the 4. Our schedule really doesn't make it neccessary to have a lot of size as long as those guys can play relatively mistake free and rebound.



I am disapointed to hear that Emery isn't much improved. I had hoped that he and Abouo would both come back as nails on D and O. Hopefully it's just one game and that he has that next offensive gear but didn't show it last night. (though it follows my theory that married players tend to have lower ceilings on improvement)

Are really going to be that small?



Even if fouls limit Davies and Anderson to 30-35 minutes a night between them at the 5 Hartsock has proven tough enough play the 5 against most teams. Also Chris Collinsworth at 6'9" has some good size.



I am more interested to see how our back court rotations end up.



Of course Jimmer is going to play 30-35 minutes a night at the point. It sounds like Martineau will be able to hold own the fort at the point.



At SG we will start Emery but I wonder if Kyle Collinsworth or Winder will play significant minutes.



I also expect that we will start Abouo. But will Rogers and or Magnusson or someone else get minutes at the 3?

Hmm...bummer about Emery too. How did his shooting look? Maybe he wasn't going full throttle on D because it's just a glorified scrimmage? At least I hope that's the case.

I've read some good things about the kid but you never seem to hear much about him.
