Lots of losses hopefully is just expensive tuition

Bronco: "I've probably learned more this year than I have in the other seasons"

Bronco rocks. I know things are bad right now but I'm hopeful that he and his players will come out of this year way better than in the past.

That's what I keep telling myself to get through this year.

There is some precedent here

Bronco and the Cougs used a 6-6 2005 season to catapult the program to an 11 win season (where our 2 losses came in 1 overtime and 1 field goal) then another 11 win season then a 10 win season and then an 11 win season...

Lets just hope this ends up being a 6-6 season like in 05.

just an annoying point on the math..

Low chance of finishing 6-6 this year... if we're 6-6, we go bowling for one more.

We have a better chance of going 3-9 or 8-5 than 6-6. We're probably looking at 7-6 or 6-7 or if CSU goes bad 5-7. I personally think we're going to finish 7-6. One less win than I had hoped but exactly where I figured for this year way back in July.

Just goes to show ya, I suppose. There are certain principles a good team has to live by. Returning starters is a BIG one. Thinking our billions of awesome freshmen were gonna come in here this year against kids that had already had a chance to mature physically and learn the college game and just wipe the floor with them was...presumptuous on my part; to say the least.

It's easy to look at "talent" (i.e. stars) and think, "Wow! Bryan Kehl wasn't rated that high coming out of high school! This guy will be ALL WORLD!!" We neglect in such a thought to take into consideration all the extra time and effort and learning and growing that veterans have had compared to freshmen. I bet that if you took most third or fourth year starters out of college and threw them back into the high school ranks, that even though they would only have gotten one or two stars in high school before, they'd be high school All-Americans for sure.

But also we should be very thankful for a year like this one. Using that same principle it can only get better from here (barring serious injuries, which is always a threat). Most of our players WILL learn their assignments better by next year and that will translate into better results.

They'll all get slower..... ;) but they'll still be better in other ways.

Jake Heaps is probably already the winningest True Freshman QB in BYU History. I conclude this becasue I read that he has a chance to become the winningest Freshman QB in history tomorrow. That will make him the best BYU Freshman QB ever.

Nowthe article was not clear on True or just freshman. That brings Detemer into queston as a RS Freshman. But how many games did Detmer stard and win in his red-shirt freshman year.

Either way

Heaps is etiher the best True Freshman BYU QB ever or the best Freshman QB period - and the season is not over.

So as far as Freshmen go, and they do not go far at QB, he is on track and also serves at evidence that QBs should red-shirt whenever possible and should probably ont start until their Sophomor season if possible - if not possible - Detmer started as soon as any QB every should start at BYU.

We never lose in November. 8-5 is how we'll finish.

We'll be much better next year, but man this year has been hard to watch as the team learns some important lessons.

When I started investing in the stock market I told my wife not to worry -- just consider any losses to be tuition as I learn how to make the big bucks. It's all about perspective.

7-6 for this team would be fantastic and I will be happy with it.

Good thing you included the disclaimer of being annoying. I was discussing the regular season. If we go 6-6 in the regular season, i guarantee a good competitive game against Utah and a bowl win.

A 6-6 regular season would mean going 5-2 to end the season, which would be a great record for the last 7 games, and give us a lot to be excited about as we head into our Indy schedule next season.
