Maybe some worries for the long season ahead?
3-point shooting: 6-22 (.273)
Free Throws: 17-29 (.586)
First let me say I didn't, but wish I could have seen the game. Stupid Mtn.
Very glad to hear Noah chipped in 21 pts. I admit, I'm a bit surprised. Also super glad to hear Abouo not only grabbed 5 boards, but also chipped in with 13 pts. I'm sure his defensive effort contributed as well.
I think we need to keep in mind Jackson is coming off an injury, so may take him another week or so to get into the swing of things. If Jimmer can average 20 - 25 pts a game with Abouo, Jackson and Hartsock averaging 12 - 15 pts a game we'll be in pretty good shape. When was the last time we had a big averaging more than 10 pts a game? Been a few years and an inside threat would do us wonders. If Noah can step it up on offense, I'm fine with lackluster offensive play by Davies as long as Davies holds it on defense.
3 point shooting ought to pick up. I'm a bit concerned about free-throw shooting. Maybe it's just me, but that's something that should remain fairly consistent year to year and I would expect players to work on during the off season.
The slow start bothers me a bit too, but I'm not entirely surprised. I'm sure our guys kind of came in thinking they could flip it on when they needed, which it looks like they did. Against better teams, that could kill us. USU will come out of the gates next week and we need to be ready.
Read a story on ESPN that USU has the highest chances of going undefeated this season. We're one of if not the toughest team on their schedule, so USU will come out and play hard.
