Sorry guys, you're off on this one.

Except jimmer shot 8 threes and only made 2. Had he been closer to his season average shooting threes he would have had around 22 points. I understand that Fredette could have scored more (he didn't shoot a single free throw) and in another thread I talked about how Jimmer's APG is up this year, which is great.

Bottom line is that BYU won that game by 50. Why are BYU's starters playing significant minutes in the second half after leading by 27? Why are they shooting 3s so early in the shot clock? I understand doing it to a team like UNLV, but why MVSC?

Jimmer also took 14 three pointers against USU. 14!

He only made 5.

What you're saying is that BYU was showing mercy by letting Fredette shoot the three. ;)

Not so fast. It was a cold shooting first half for Jimmer. Yes, he didn't get to 20 bc of poor 1st half. And Rose did smile/grimmace when Jimmer wanted back in. And it was ridiculous that he stayed in as long as he did-and finally Rose pulled Jimmer's plug as a result.

So Rose then pulled Jimmer because Jimmer wasn't actually padding his stats?

Jimmer sat with OVER 10 minutes to go in the game (10:36 to be exact). That's not staying in too long.

Emery was subbed out with 7:02 remaining. Rose did not keep his starters in too long.

The time at which the starters came out of the game isn't the real issue. Although, if I'm coach rose I sit all my startes with 18 minutes to go in the second half for a couple reasons.

1. Pretty hard to get an injury sitting on the bench

2. Get some rest for a long trip to Southern texas where you could be playing 2 OTs. (Obviously this is after the USF game so I look a lot smarter)

3. Again, this is after the USF game. But BYU would have beaten MVSC without fredette playing at all in the second half or the last 7 minutes of the first half. If I'm rose at this point, I'm sitting Jimmer any chance I get to let the team learn to function without him on the court.

Here's the real issue though; the score and the shot selection. Fredette and Emery could have played the whole second half and i wouldn't have cared. It could have turned into a great exercise for BYU to discover new ways to score with the starters on the floor. But it was the same thing that BYU always does which is run and gun. If Second unit is on the floor let them tear it up, but when the starters are still running and gunning with a 50 point lead...... Come on man.
