sounds like the refs are keeping smith in the game. UCLA and their refs came to play today?

I'm not watching the game, just listening intently. Is the return of Chris Collinsworth having an impact on this game? Good or Bad?

BYU has to play perfect to overcome the refs. So when you combine sucky FT's with sucky defense there just isn't much hope.

And this (refs controlling games) is why basketball is often the most painful game for me to watch.

Why is Collinsworth shooting so many long shots?

UCLA had 3 guys with 4 fouls with 8 minutes left in the game, including their big bruiser, and none of them fouled out. The refs did everything they could to keep Smith in the game. He was protected like crazy.

Jimmer was a no show in the 2nd half. 17 of his 25 came in the 1st half.

You can't miss 10 free throws, 14 3's have nearly 20 turnovers and beat anyone halfway decent when the refs can't call a good game.

We are to blame as much as the refs are but this was a trap game of epic proportions and our team didn't respond like they needed to, to overcome the obstacles.

Lot's of hoops left to play but I expected us to lose the moment we heard how badly Hartsock was hurt against Arizona; what I didn't expect was how poorly we'd shoot and protect the basketball.

Even with the terrible refs, we didnt' deserve to win this game.

We have to get back to playing our brand of basketball and that means first and foremost, taking care of every possession.

UCLA is not a good team, but they have enough talented players that if we're not playing our brand, or if our bigs are hurting (which they are right now) that we were ripe for a road loss.

Better to lose to the greatest college hoops program in history (though in a down year) than a no name program.

Amen. I'd have hoped that this team would have learned some lessons after teh USF game, but apparently not. Perhaps they will in a loss. Rebounding was also a huge issue. Canit win with turnovers, bad free throw shooting and poor rebounding. Simple as that.

Davies played great, the parts that I got to see. They left their players in with 4 fouls we took Jimmer out and they got a bigger lead. This game will help them in the long run.

If you asked me this morning -would I be happy if BYU turned the ball over 20 times, missed 14 3s and only lost by 7 to UCLA

AND

Jake Heaps would have a coming out party on national TV with Hoffman, Van Noy and Quezada having huge games and dropping 52 on Utep, then admitting he did so with a broken rib...

I'd tell you that was a very very successful day for BYU and BYU fans.

I can't complain. We're hurt down low, have several easy games coming up and will have 1 loss going into conference play... considering how we looked against Utah State, that's an amazing result.

I'm happy today.

Turn overs killed us against UCLA. Our free-throw shooting could have been better too. We're lucky we only lost by 7.

Not upset, but disappointed that we didn't pull out with a W. Guess it was bound to happen.
