Whats up with Emery?

Its interesting that KC hasn't had to come off the bench really at all. Remember how Rose sat Davies in the beginning of the year a few times, to send him a message? It seems like it would serve KC to have to sit and show him he needs to work harder.

Although KC did have a great game not too long ago against CSU.

Sports is rife with examples of players with big attitudes under performing because their attitudes get in the way of being willing to buckle down, work hard and recognize a need to improve/change things.

I've heard of no such reports of this type of attitude with KC. Could you please link to these myriad stories?

There was also a run in with him shortly before he committed to BYU where someone on CougarBlue ended up getting hustled by Kyle. Searched all over for a link to that one, but couldn't locate the it.

Got it, I guess. But seven words in one line by one person and a reference to him being cocky don't rise to the level you were intimating (several run ins, best thing since sliced bread, etc).

Just because it hasn't made it on ESPN a la Chambers doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And, like I said before, there are no such reports or references - even on obscure fan sites like CougarCorner or CougarBlue - of Jimmer (a much better player as a freshman), Emery, Noah, etc. hustling people on the DT courts or being even overly confident.

I saw a blog just yesterday about Jimmer and how Jimmer told all his teammates, "You're welcome, for me beating SDSU for you." Should I put any stock in that?

If that's true, maybe that's why he had even less support in NM. The team figured they would let Jimmer take on all 5 lobos (which is what it looked like).

I don't buy it for a second, he is just not that type of guy, sooo many chances to have a ego, why grow on then ?

I read that blog as well, i thought it was really weird. I wonder what his source was. If that was the case i hope Jimmer came back down to earth after the New Mexico debacle.

Could this be sort of like a Kobe Bryant situation, where the team plays a little better when he takes fewer shots?

The years that MJ won titles with Chicago, his scoring averages were lower than years they didn't win the title. Just sayin...

Oh man, one blog said one thing? Stop the presses! Oh brother, has Jimmer ever come across as cocky, selfish, and self-aggrandizing? Have his teammates ever had anything to say other than how much they enjoy being on the team with him? His scoring average has gone up, but look at the shot percentage from the rest of the team: its not that they're not getting shots, its that they're not making them. Abuou needs to figure out how to rest himself after playing straight through the offseason with team Ivory Coast, Emery and Hartsock need to figure out where their shots went and start taking shots earlier in the game to find their rhythm. Jimmer isn't the problem.

Earlier this year, Jackson was playing through pain and it showed up in poor shooting. A couple of weeks ago, Rose was quoted as saying something to the effect that Emery was no longer playing through pain but that he was not 100% recovered from the injury - shins iirc.

The pain may have returned. If it has, he may or may not have mentioned it. He is a senior and he wants to play. RIley Nelson took heat from some fans for playing through pain and not mentioning it. It happens. I had lunch with a starting player for another team and his father right before he had a very, very good game vs Nebraska. He did not mention playing with pain. He did not mention it to his father or probably to his coaches at that time. He just played through the pain. I only know about the pain now, because he is dealing with it in the offseason. Surgery.

It amazes me how athletes can play as effectively as they do when playing injured. It happens.

That is why it bothers me when people dog on a particular athlete that used to be good but suddenly "sucks". You may not know what that athlete is dealing with and in many cases the coaches know, but they don't advertise it to opponents.

I am not claiming to have any inside information about Jackson Emery. I do not. But he could still be injured and playing his heart and guts out for BYU and BYU fans.

As for KC - he is a true freshman. They are streaky generally. He has improved in his free throw and outside shooting since earlier in the year. Whether you start him, Abouo, or someone else, they have some weaknesses at this point in time. Charles gets too tense and is a risk to turn it over or just miss finishing what should be an easy shot out of clumsiness born out of tensing up. He seems to contribute best on offense when you get him out on the break, before the defense sets up. He seems at his worst trying to grab a rebound and put it back up in or driving to the hoop and trying to finish. Good defender and good rebounder. Hustles.

Our bench players fill valuable roles, but none of them are consistently reliable to score. IMHO, only Jimmer, Davies, and a healthy Emery are. Hartsock was, but hasn't been lately. Maybe he isn't 100%. He has been knocked around on and off the court lately.
