Kansas REALLY didn't want to be #1

Less than 24 hours after the rankings came out with Kansas as the new #1, they got absolutely smoked by in-state rival Kansas State 84-68. K-State's Jacob Pullen was Jimmeresque in the win, knocking down 5 of 6 from downtown and racking up a total of 38 points. The craziest thing is that the Jayhawks were never really in the game, they got behind early, and were never able to cut the lead to fewer than 8 in the later stages of the second half. I guess some teams just don't want the pressure of being #1.

Will this bump BYU back up to #1 RPI?

It should. On sunday it was....

Kansas --- .681

BYU --- .677

OSU --- .6727

G-town --- .672

SDSU --- .6712

Especially when the cougars win on saturday, they can reclaim the top spot.

Not that anyone with half a brain would argue that BYU's schedule has been weak, but if they tried to, then any easy retort would be to ask them to name off the impressive wins by Kansas.

Pardon me, the officially release of NCAA RPI comes out Wednesday. And yes we will be #1, switching places with KU.

we're number 1!

we're number1!

Or NUmber 5! or 6, or 7, or 8

depending on what your'e talking about....

Yet again, it's so tough to win on the road in college bball.

Historically the home team wins something like 70% of games in college basketball. The runs that the elite teams have in college basketball every year, where they win almost all of their home games and close to 90% of their road games is extremely impressive. The impressive thing about BYU and SDSU is that they are the only teams in the top ten that played more pre-conference road games then home games, and they did it by a large margin. Both played something like 12 or 13.

For comparison, Utah State rarely leaves Logan in the pre-season (Georgetown and BYU this year are the exception) unless it's for a tournament. Morrill doesn't agree to go anywhere unless a team will come back to Logan and play (Georgetown this year a RARE exception), so they end up playing weak OOC teams. They have to go to St. Mary's this weekend, I think, for bracketbusters and I'm sure Stew is pissed about that. Morrill's lack of willingness to schedule some neutral site and even road games in the pre-season is a reason I'm glad he turned the opportunity to interview at BYU down many years ago (he was still at CSU at the time I believe). On a side note, Utah has decided they will no longer play at USU or at Weber State with their move to the Pac-10. Look for Weber State to continue to go to SLC to play every year, but that USU/UoU rivalry is probably dead in both football and basketball. Interesting, because Utah was giving BYU grief for not playing USU every year in football.

As of last year 79 D1 bball programs won 75% of their home games or better in their current arenas and only 20 had losing records in their current arenas.

Nice, we are now #1 in RPI =D

To bad SDSU drop'ed to #5.

I read that Pullen, or whoever the top player for KSU is, went to the line 19 times in one game. Obviously, the Big12 refs had no problem calling fouls as they see them.

Oh, and yes, BYU is back on top of the RPI. It cracks me up that at some outlier bracket sites, that they have BYU as a 5 or 6-seed.

Does that mean OSU will move back up to #1 if they win out this week? Who will be the new #1?

One of those "outlier" brackets is....wait for it....the RPI bracket.

I think you mean the "RPI Forecaster" bracket. Not an official RPI bracket.

also last year, 50% of all games were lost by a D1 program.

Conversely, 50% of all games were also won.

Actually not true, since D1 programs invariably also lost to non-D1 programs (I'm looking at you Utah and your loss to SW Baptist. But yes, all games between D1 programs had 50% of the D1 teams winning and losing.
