So does BYU red-shirt Davies next year then pull it in January '12 if he's needed??

they won't pull it because he won't be practicing with the team before then.

if the suspension is that long it'll be a full year redshirt (without a scholarship so not really a redshirt) and not taking classes at the Y.

there's a chance we lose him, but there's a good chance we don't either... that story has yet to be written, but I would have to guess that unless he gets a very very kind ruling (crossing fingers) that he doesn't play next year.

Not that I think like BD, but if I had a choice between sitting out a half year and then joining the team in Janurary and not being in the greatest of shapes and trying to mesh with a team that is already meshed or redshirting a year and then joining the team the next year and play for two full year and not a year and a half, I'd choose two years, but then again, I'm not young and I might not think like BD.

Unrelated question: Is it true that a girl who gets pregnant at BYU can't come back until 12 months after she gives birth? That's what I heard, but I have no good source on it. If true, wouldn't that make HC punishments for women worse than for men? Weird question, I know, sorry, just curious.

THe HC office would never allow for such variability and in consistency. Would it? :sulk:

I mean, its a "science", right?

I know you're being sarcastic, but actually, no. BYU tends to take things on a case-by-case basis. They aren't U.S. legal code with automatic punishment ranges assigned to each different crime.

So , this "science" TH is referring to. Is that Case-by-case science? case-study science? Or what? Cause I'm confused. ANd even though i was never at any time at BYU "the guilty taking the truth to be hard" and even though i'm acting like it now; this whole approach is antiquated and reactionary. The Code--eternal for sure. The administration of it? Getting old. PRegnant. NOt pregnant--- It was the act that broke the code not the result or non-result. Poor girls, they get the worse end of both deals: 9 months of hell and 12 months of banishment.

Sounds like the 1950's and 60's. Send 'em away!

dm and others,

can we start to get back to sports discussion? I think we have discussed the HC enough in the basketball forums and it is time to get back to sports talk. More of the HC discussion may have to start being seperated and put in the lounge section of this message board.

If you want to discuss BD and when he is getting back to BYU or if he will be great. If we are going to keep railroading to HC discussion alone...not so great.

So are they going to kick him out of school after this semester is over?? Then let him enroll again in January?? Just wondering why they'd not allow him to take classes later when he's still enrolled now??

That's my guess. UVU or Snow.

Hmmmm ...... "HC" eh?? Let's see - Health Care? Hard Core? Habeus Corpus? (for Lawboy) Holy Cow? Happy Christmas (politically correct ya know) Healthy Cooking

Head Circumference? Holy Crap? Hospitality Club? Happy Couple? Hand Control? (Jake Heaps) Hanging Chad? How Cute? Hazardous Cargo? Heating Contractor? Hillsdale College? Hyperbolic Congruence? (my favorite)

Ahh well - Mongo gives up. Mongo not smart.

I dont know what to expect from this UNiversity, Except "open hands" and then hugs.

The issue is this. If BD has to sit out 12 months from MArch 1. why would he stay at byu? Transfer and play somewhere else. I know this usually doesnt work with most kids, but this "exact"-ness, again, if true, seems over the top. It becomes more about our worshipping practices (insert "science") and not principles and people. Where does repentance begin and end and where does rigid, dogmatic, thinking take over now that this whole thing has created an "Exposure" panacea for BYU.

Do the terms of church discipline then dictate university policy? Has BD been excommunicated and have to wait out 1 whole year prior to re-baptism? LAst time I checked, "Formal Probation" has leeway based on the sincerity of sinner, the nature of the offense, and the spiritual maturity/priesthood status of the offender. Is he even an Elder?

BUt again, probably not helpful to speculate without facts--many of which are not our business and of a confidential nature--oh wait, the whole world knows about BD's sins, so what the heck is confidential anymore?

Yep, sorry CC posters, I'm still worked up about this. I will try not to sow too many seeds of dissention or "HC office apostacy" posts.

DM - as near as I can tell, Harvey Unga got his long-held girlfriend pregnant and got 1 year after turning down the NFL to return to the team. Brandon apparently had a long-held girlfriend who is at ASU playing volleyball but got a UVU student he had not known quite as long and who may not have even been his main squeeze pregnant. That last bit popped out when it seems that gf1 discovered that he had a gf2. Now that may be the whole story or the tip of the iceberg. You and I will never know. You need to let go of your angst, which quite frankly seems like it is more about you, like most of us, wishing he was still on the team or not going to be gone very long than it it really is about his eternal well-being. I have no idea what Brandon's true repentance needs are and I am happy to leave that to the people with the responsibility to decide and who probably know a lot more than we know about what has gone on and for how long. And if Brandon has told them some things that we never need to know - so be it. Some things just pop out though and there is nothing worse than the wrath of a woman scorned (unless it is her parents wrath) if he has some other gfs that didn't know about these gfs and if so that will pop out - so I just hope he has come clean with everything and it is clear that BYU will work with him to give him a path back. And he does have a red-shirt season iirc.

If I were BD, I would only leave BYU if I wasn't quite sure I was going to be able to stick to the HC for two more years. Because if it happens again, transferring will not be as graceful as it would be now with a rs year to give.

So asume that BD not only missed the ending to this season, but that he will miss next season. Get used to that. If it turns out better - then celebrate.

BYU Independent Study might be a viable option although that could impact eligibility calculations for NCAA purposes. idk for sure, but they do have rules and guidelines about athletes not enrolled in school. But that may just mean recruits that havenot selected a college. In any event, I amsure heis getting all kinds of help from BYU to figure this out and probably all kinds of returned calls from other schools offering him an alternative to BYU if he has shown any interest in them.

Working for a year. But for heaven's sake, keep him away from UVU - seems like he has already spent too much time over there.

Memo to all student athletes and coaches. Date BYU coeds with high moral standards and who have a similar committment to the HC. Neither of the girls involved with BD had to sign the BYU HC becasue they are not BYU students. They did not break the BYU HC.

I'd just say date girls with high moral standards. There are some lousy, slutty girls at BYU and some very chaste ones at UVU.

The deadline for application for the Sping, Summer and Fall 2011 semesters is FEB 1 2011. The deadline for Winter 2012 semester is OCT 1 2011. So IF he is dismissed from the school, the earliest he could be readmitted would be Winter 2012.

Two things that got me through that period of live relatively unscathed:

1 - Dating a girl that kept me in line

2 - Going on a mission

I think it would have been very tough to get through college with those hormones raging without those two things.

By the way, I also got married 2 months after returning from my mission. It's now been 34 years!

I got married two months after i got home from my mission. wasn't hard to avoid that problem. :)

This is a real shame about davies. I imagine if we see him back at all it will be the season after next which hurts the team even more.

bummer! davies was getting better every game. he would have been amazing next year and simply awesome his senior year. hope that whatever happens or wherever he goes that he can get through this and have a succesful career.

If Brandon is readmitted for next fall, I don't think BYU's deadlines will be a problem.

But if he's missed the deadline how can we let him in? Wouldn't that be making special considerations for him and not treating him like anyother student?

Has Brandon been kicked out of school yet? If not, is it definite that he will be kicked out of school or is that just speculation?
