I thought Pres Monson was a FrUte? Not dissing him. If he was bald, we all would say he's bald.

Before he became Church President, you'd see him at several home games a year at the MC watching the Cougars. Remember, he is chairman of the BOD of BYU.

Priesthood meeting is available online immediately after it is over. This is speculating, because we have to win two very difficult games between now and then for this to even be an issue, but I think that, personally, my attention to the talks would be much better after the game than during. I would probably want to keep checking the score, wonder what's going on, and (basically) not get much out of the conference. How do I know this? Because I live in Illinois (our stake center is across the road from the University of Illinois) and a few years ago an undefeated Illinois team was in the final four (and, ultimately, the finals, where they lost to North Carolina). Guess what? The semifinals were during general priesthood meeting. I went to the meeting, did the DVR thing, etc., but simply couldn't pass up checking scores. Others I saw were even taking potty breaks and detouring to their cars to tune in the radio. I ended up watching conference over again later on the Internet and it was amazing to me how much real substance I had missed the first time around. The "delayed" conference was, personally, a much better experience for me than the live one. My body was at the conference, but my soul was at the ball game.

The great thing is, thanks to technology there's no wrong answer. DVR the game? Watch conference online immediately after? It's a win-win-win!

I had Stake Conference Priesthood Leadership meeting, followed by the Adult meeting the day of the BYU-SDSU game at SDSU. I went to the meetings and recorded the game. The tough part was avoiding everyone who was checking the score during the meetings. Somehow I was able to get out of there without finding out the results, went home and really enjoyed watching (especially fast-forwarding through commercials). I'm afraid if I went to General Priesthood meeting, it would be almost impossible to avoid hearing the score.

That being said - I'm sure I will be at Priesthood Meeting. No way I could give an excuse to my wife that I need to watch the game. She does a pretty good job of keeping me on the straight and narrow! :)

I said to the girlfriend, "If BYU wins the next two games, this may be the lowest attended Priesthood session in recent history."

She said, "What are you going to do" with the look that only women can give.

I hummed and hawed, and again, with the same look and that tone that only women can do "And what are you going to to?"

I will be attending priesthood meeting and watching the game afterwards, if it comes down to that. May have to leave my phone at home though.

Another final 4/priesthood story. I was in the MTC when Utah made it's run to the championship game. I do believe that either Pres. Hinckley announced the score of the semi-final game that year or that there was some reference made about people leaving quickly to catch the end of the game on the radio.

Last year (because of Butler) and this year (because of BYU) are the first time in probably 6 or 7 years that I've even cared about the 2nd weekend of the tournament, and even less about the final 4 (until last year, with Butler). So, until last year, I didn't even worry about the decision at the time. Last year, I happened to be traveling with my 7 year old son, so I couldn't go to priesthood session (although I doubt they would have thrown us out).

All I know is that if BYU makes the FInal Four, it will be a religious experience worthy of being called a Priesthood Session.....

I was planning on DVR for Prieshood session. :) It is a "broadcast" afterall and I don't mind lending a DVR to the meetinghouse

How does one record the Priesthood session? Is it even broadcasted over cable?

Hard to do anything but go to Preisthood since my oldest son just turned 12. Pretty hard use all the justifications (excuses) listed in this post if I have any hope of him being true to all the sacrifices he has coming his way.... Not dating the cutest girl in school before he's 16, early morning Seminary, mission.

It will be easy to recreate the emotions of the game with the HD-DVR. Impossible to justify putting the Prophet.....and the Lord on pause, at least not for a basketball game.

Oh c'mon. In order to know the good, one must know the bad. Make the kid stay home, miss the priesthood session so guilt will wrack his soul so he'll never do that again. Make sure you have plenty of Oreos and A&W Root Beer to dull the heartache that he'll experience. Be sure to have his mother there also in case it becomes too much for the young lad.

I'll watch the session after the game online. I'd be a nervous wreck the whole time sweating bullets that somebody will mention the score. Considering my family used to go 4 wheeling conference weekend when I grew up, I figure me watching it (alebeit a couple hours later) is a step in the right direction ;)

I'd probably be checking scores every 2 mins anyways.

I actually get to put my will to the test tomorrow when my son's deacon's quorum has a basketball game at 5pm pacific. Should I stay home and watch BYU and Jimmer, or do I record the game and support my son who I love much more than life itself?

This discussion actually came up in EQ on sunday. We (almost) all agreed that the Cougs would handle either Wisc or Butler, so Thursday's game was really for the Final Four. One brother asked if we thought that God cared whether BYU wins or loses any particular game in any sport. The majority said that He does, mostly because of the tremendous exposure that a continued Jimmer run would mean for the school and church. This brother then asserted that if in fact God takes a personal interest in the outcome of BYU sporting events, He would intervene to ensure that BYU loses on Thursday night so as to remove the temptation next Saturday. I was surprised that about half of the quorum agreed he was right.
