Not true this year. The Jazz have two first round picks: their own and the New Jersey Nets. If there was no lottery the Jazz would select 7th and 10th. The Jazz would have a high pick this year because of how bad they've been.

Last year the Jazz got New York's pick and that wound up being 9th. The Jazz have been a bad team this year.

But I agree with your other points. While NY, Phoenix, Miami or the Lakers would be a great spot for Jimmer given his skill set and their games, Utah would be a good spot for him.

Like you said, Jimmer can shoot and score and anyone who can do it as efficiently as Jimmer can play in the NBA. Teams that are afraid of Jimmer because of how he looks (not like an NBA player) are going to be missing on a very good player.

I disagree, in fact, I think Jimmer is more like Deron Williams than people are willing to give him credit. D Will was considered pudgy and slow when he was a senior in college, he certainly didn't score like Jimmer and he didn't come with the marketing aspect.

Jimmer makes a lot of sense to the Jazz, particularly because they're banking on guys like Al Jefferson and Milsap to be the centerpieces of this team right now. That works if there's a guy that can hit shots when they get double teamed and he's wide open. We rarely ever saw Jimmer get shots without someone in his face this year... he'll get that oportunity with the Jazz.

I think those that are hoping he goes to a contender, tend to forget how many bad NBA teams there are out there. Utah is a much much softer landing than 75% of the teams out there, for Jimmers sake.

To get minutes as a rookie, you not only have to be good, be you have to get a chance from the GM, the coaches, and your teammates. Who's going to balk at Jimmer playing early with the Jazz? If you don't get minutes early, you may never get them... consider that while you're talking about the pipe dream of him playing with Lebron or Kobe. (Lebron and Kobe also have those same pipe dreams, because they would love to have a shooter of Jimmers caliber during the playoffs)

It is a lot more likely that Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward are the key pieces going forward. Al Jefferson will a part of it but it all revolves around Hayward and Favors. Millsap is an afterthought.

It's amazing to me that Jazz fans (I'm not one) have gotten on the Gordon bandwagon after the season was made meaningless and of course their booing of the pick at the time. I hope you're right as he's the type of kid that could make me root for the Jazz, but to me, he's no better than a younger AK47 at this point, while Jefferson and Milsap are crucial in the paint. Hayward certainly has a high ceiling, but nearly all year long Jazz fans have bemoaned the draft pick... it's entertaining to see them come around after a couple 20 point games. fair weather would certainly sum up the vast majority of Jazz fans

Booing draft picks seems to turn out alright at times though, ask Donovan McNabb, etc.

Call me crazy but did someone just say that paul milsap is an afterthought? The guy is a stud and the stuff great teams are made of. Favors is still a project who may or may not turn out to be much of anything and Jefferson is still pretty young and has dominated since d-will left town.

Back to Jimmer though, he's going to land somewhere and do just fine. May be a journeyman, and probably won't be an all-star, but teams need guys like Jimmer in the NBA.

Millsap is a stud @ 4 Million a year. At $8 million a year he is underachieving. Especially considering that he isn't going to be the regular starter from here on out, or shouldn't be, if the Jazz really want to develop Favors.

Yet another contract that's going to hamper the Jazz.

Not really, I believe his contract was front loaded so he actually makes less in subsequent years than he made in the signing bonus and the first year.

If Paul Millsap is you 4th or 5th best player and is surrounded by players that cover up his defects you can be a great team. Paul has limited physical talent and he has maximized it. But in the end he needs to be protected by bigger players. Paul is ideal as a 6th man. He can play only 26 minutes a night at full intensity and avoid being posted up by the Pau Gasol's and Kevin Garnett of the NBA.

So in the long term he is an an afterthough. You need all-star caliber players and Paul won't ever be one.

Nope, he signed a 4 year 32 million dollar contract. about 7 mill of that a year is on the books, along with a 5.6 million dollar signing bonus (off the books but money in his pocket). All 4 years are the same, his contract doesn't escalate or decelerate, from everything I've read/seen.

Jimmer to Miami? you can't be serious. With media stars like Lebron and DWade, Jimmer would be a nobody and never see the floor. He needs to go to a team that needs some help (like the Jazz), and somebody who can hit the long threes night after night (unlike Miles who lights it up one night, then goes 0-9 the next (Dwill was similar). The thing that will help Jimmer in the NBA is he will not be the main focus of the defense, and he will get more good looks and more freedom to do what he does best.

To be honest, I hate pro sports, and could care less if Jimmer does great, so-so, or never makes it in the NBA--he was a great, great player at BYU, and that's all I care about.

You're right. He received the $5.6 signing bonus, but also received $4.7 million of the next years pay up front, so essentially got $10 million bucks to sign his contract, a light paycheck the first year (around $2 million) and then $6.7 million each of the next 3 years. Must really suck to be him ;)

So I guess we are both right. But, I'm more right... (TIC) lol. good find.

See, it pays to be an average, non-starter player for the Jazz.

FIFTH HIGHEST PAYROLL in the NBA this season

Just ask:

Greg Ostertag: ($6.9 Mill, $7.8 mill, $8.6 Mill - as if that wasn't enough, we brought him back for 2 more years @ $4 Mill a piece.)

Harpring - (averaged $6 million a year for 7 years. And unloading his contract last year is the reason we don't have Eric Maynor... We traded Harpring and Maynor for to the Thunder for ........ the rights to 2002 draft pick Peter Fehse - who has never played in the NBA. We could have used Maynor this year, no?)

Jarron Collins: $20 mill in 7-ish seasons. Did he even play in 20 games a year?

Boozer (6 year, $80 million contract - started an average of 56 games during his 6 year career here. Guess how many games he started for the Bulls this year with a week left? 55. )

CJ Miles - ($3.4 million this year)

Memo - ($9.5 million this year, $10.8 next)

AK - ($17.8 million this year - non starter)

Kris Humphries (averaged 1.6 Mill for 4 years. averaged 3 rebs and 3 points a game)

etc, etc, etc...

I'm a big jazz fan and didn't like the Heyward pick mainly because I thought it was too big of a reach. I said then and say now that we should have drafted Paul George. I don't have a problem with the guy, but I don't think because of a couple good games at the end of the year when nothing was on the line that he'll be a great player. Practically anywhere else in the league Heyward would be coming off the bench next year, but not for the jazz. Hopefully he'll improve next year and we can trade him when his stock is at its highest point.

Sorry, but Corbin is a terrible coach. On behalf of The Jimmer, no thanks.

This. I'd love to see Jimmer go somewhere with a good coach and a great, older PG who's a few years from calling it quits.
