Interesting article. If you're drafting a PG in the first round for his "defense" you're wasting a pick. Defense in the NBA is about team, not the PG.

Listen to some people talk about Jimmer and the NBA, you'd think players with great shooting and extraordinary range while also being a lock-down defender for guys like Rondo, Paul, Williams and Rose are dime a dozen talents. So since Jimmer won't be a lock-down, 1st team all-defensive PG he won't play in the NBA.

Jimmer has a unique skill that EVERY team in the NBA could use. He makes EVERY team better. You can't say that about other players. The NBA is about making shots, and Jimmer can do that. There'd be no role for Kemba, Knight or Irving on a team like Chicago or New Orleans. There would be for Jimmer. He could contribute for EVERY team.

Very good point.

PGs are not drafted because of their defensive prowess. When was the last time an average PG with superb defensive skills was drafted? Doesn't happen. Drafted PGs are drafted for being good scorers, good passers and then good defenders, in that order.

I think it's so lame too when people point out the number of rebounds Jimmer average. He's a PG!

If shutdown athletes were in such demand Jackson Emery would be the potential top 20 pick.

Finally someone gets it. No one in the NBA plays Defense until the playoffs anyway. And Jimmer can score often enough to cover up any defensive liabilities (which aren't any more than the next NBA point guard).

I laugh when I hear pundits say "He's not going to be able to defend Nash, Rondo, Rose, Williams or Paul."

How many current PGs in the NBA can guard those guys? None. But somehow that's a knock on a guy coming out of college? That he can't do what no one (except maybe LaBron) in the NBA can do. Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

Bottom line, if Jimmer weren't white there wouldn't be any "knocks."

And even the great Lebron looked pretty defenseless against "the jet".
