Hartsock talked to the local Bartlesville newspaper, and according to him, BYU will be playing high tempo offense again.

I take that to mean an emphasis on the pass and quick scores from everyone, not just the PG position.

This sounds good to me. I Think Hartsock's experience this year, playing in place of everybody that got injured or HCed, will elevate his game next year. He'll be a couch on court and BYU will be more diverse.

Too much run and gun may limit Popes influence on our Bigs which might not be the greatest when trying to land recruits like Jabari Parker

Why not? I thought Parker was more of a tall guy playing guard than a short post player. He is 6'6"- 6'8" and plays pretty much any position, but his role model is Oscar Robrtson, so I'd guess he fashions himself more of a guard and would likely love the run and gun style.

That's what I thought too. I thought he was more of a wing scorer than low-post.

I believe I've seen him listed at both 6'6" and 6'8". Either way he'll add to the team. I think his game will be somewhat like Abouo's and he'll be able to play where needed.

Amare Stoudamire made a name for himself in the run and gun. So can other bigs that know how to run the floor and can score when the offense does set up. I'm not worried at all.

So, the team that plays almost the fastest pace in all of basketball is going to go even faster. Sounds fun to me.

So, who scored more points per game, Jimmer his senior year (of college), or Hartsock his senior year (of high school)?

Didn't Hartsock average like 35 a game in HS?

I basically interpret this to mean Noah will get more touches. I don't think we got away from the run 'n gun last season; it was just one player primarily doing the running.

It was quite obvious at times Noah was frustrated a bit with Jimmer and the lack of interior touches. Some that likely has to do with Jimmer and some it probably also has to do with Noah's average inside game. Noah got more touches/points when he took up the 3-point shot.

It was "quite obvious" that teammates were frustrated with Jimmer? What kind revisionist history is this? Last year's team was extremely unified.

I remember last season being a lot of clearing out the paint so that Jimmer could do his thing, setting picks for Jimmer, spreading the floor on the break to clear up driving lanes for Jimmer, etc, etc. I don't really think I would classify our game as a run-and-gun until Davies went down with that groin injury.

Everyone on the team said all the right things to the press. That doesn't mean everyone was super happy with Jimmer taking a majority of shots. I thought you could tell that just from watching without any inside info. There were guys that were open but stood there while Jimmer shot the ball. It will be interesting to see what happens this year.

Yeah, let's see how happy everyone is with more shots if they're losing more games.

The "couch" will provide a place to rest - they'll need it will all of the running and gunning :D

I thought it was closer to 29, but I'm curious what the truth is.

Go back and watch the games. In more than one game you can see a frustrated Noah, shaking his head when a wide open look was missed and in some cases being rather vocal about it. In the New Mexico game, I believe, there's even a slow motion replay of Noah yelling "Pass the ball!" and making a chest-pass motion as he returns up the court. Jimmer had just decided not to pass it to a wide-open Noah underneath and instead shot a 3 with two defenders in front of him. Jimmer missed.

I love Jimmer. He was a thrill to watch and a truly gifted player, but getting the ball inside was not a strong suit of his. If you watch closely, you'll actually see Davies and Noah got the majority of their touches underneath from Emery not Jimmer.

I realize our bigs needed to "deliver" more when they got touches (hopefully Pope will turn that around). So, understand it's a bit of a two-way street, but I can see why Noah wold be excited to play post the Jimmer-era.

Noah doesn't have a post game. He can't elevate and therefore gets blocked easy. So he effectively would clog the paint. Fortunately he adapted and got his 3 on--some of the time.

Now his high release is helpful and why he killed it in HS, but its too one-dimensional. He was put in a tough place all over last year and deserves a lot of credit. But without a strong post player (Davies) Noah is limited offensively and defensively. I hope he has a great year. I believe he can have a better year stat-wise.
