Great thread, especially the post by rasta. TCU may have made the Big 12 a more competitive conference than they were with aTm.

Makes me wonder about the future. One could say BYU isn't ready to compete in the Big 12. Or one could say that the Big 12 would force BYU to raise its game. Really frosts me what happened with the PAC. It would have been a great fit on the level of competition.

TCU already has two losses. I doubt they beat BSU, so unless they win their bowl game they won't be a 10 win team this season.

The problem with Bronco, as we've all noted in the past, is he preaches football as the 5th most important thing. So if football is already number 5 on the list, getting a team up for a "big game" is probably 6th.

Until football moves up on the priority list, I don't see us bucking the under performing trend.

I think the problem with Byu in big games is that they are treated like any other game.

The concept seems fine. The reality is that they are not any other game. The teams are bigger, faster and stonger. You have to play outside of yourself.... Instead you play your fundamental game and when the other teams punches you in the face you start playing worse... Sounds like it gets in your head hence the mistakes(either mental or over playing)

Just my theory.

you cant pin this on bronco, try the bone headed plays by riley over and over again. learn from you mistakes and he does not. same stupid crap again and again.

Yes - you actually can. He is the head coach and DC.

The punting team was not ready to play. Some of those called off practices due to being so ready could have focused on special teams.

The defense did not prepare specifically for TCU and as such, was not ready to play. Tree penalty. Tone not set. Tree mismatch on wide open pass - not planned for. Well TCU planned for it. Laziness on coaching hiding behind we just practice to improve our selves and achieve our potential through execution. Maybe we ought to give ourselves an even field or advantage by planning to beat an opponent and not get beaten by them. Out coached. Same thing as QB on wildcat waltzes into the end zone untouched twice on the same play. Scheme. TCU saw and practiced to exploit a tendency. BYU defense was not ready. You may recall Utah busted multiple long TD runs on one play BYU had not anticipated. Bronco needs to step up on pre-game strategy to give the team a better chance to execute. Took Doman a while to realize running Alisa into a pile was not going to work, but Riley and JJ could make people miss tackles. The game was over by the time the coaches figured this out on the fly.

Sno, none those teams you named won 9 or more games. IF that is your definition of a big game, we truly are in trouble, Name the last 10 win team we beat. Not sure Bronco has.

While you are at it - name all of the 10 win teams Lavell, Crowton, or any other BYU coach beat. It is a very short list over 40 or more years depending on how far back you want to look. Very short. So Give Bronco 30 years and he will get a couple.

BYU was a only a few plays away from a win and only a few plays away from another meltdown. The fact that Bronco was "mystified" about the loss is in itself mystifyingly maddening. If he preaches nothing else it "execution". If thats his mantra then in the absence of special teams somebody's head ought to roll.

Although I will say that BYU was only slightly "out-executed" but TCU's speed and killer attitude (learned from Patterson) overwhelmed our Oline and special teams.

Bronco never said he was mystified by the loss. He was mystified by a punter that dropped 2 punts when it had never happened before in practice or in a game. I think most fans feel the same way. You prepare and correct for mistakes that you see, when someone does something twice which has never been done before, how do you prepare or correct that? You guys are blowing my mind today, laying blame where there is none because you see some sort of phantom pattern.

Not just the two drops either. Partially blocked and other short punts including letting the guy pick up the rolling punt and return it for big yards. Punt team gave field position to TCU at least five times leading to 28 points.
